OK...so the whole weekend was AMAZING! (I'll keep my thoughts about it for a post somewhere else)

Anyway, here is the plan as was decided by the group discussion:

1. AvatarCon is not a feasible option due to several factors. (turnout, setup, ect...) However, based off of future meetups and Avatar 2 numbers, the plan is to attempt something later down the road.

2. We ARE planning on doing a similar meetup next year. We are waiting from input from the July 9th meetup to make any plans of dates. The general thought though is to plan on late-June to July. (Due to school/weather/exhibit)

3. We ARE planning on merging both the June 4th group and the July 9th group for next year which is right now at 40+ people.

4. The IKRAN NEWSLETTER will still be delivering vital information about the July 9th meetup and then about next years meetup. The will also be a "central hub" or website (currently being worked on) to have all of the information in one place.

5. The SCIENCE FICTION MUSEUM was thrilled to have us visit and overall we made a great impression and have now established a two-way dialog. I am currently in contact with the PR person at the SFM, and am working on figuring things out for the next event.

So to sum it up...there will most likely be a MEETUP not convention in 2011, probably in late-June/July and maybe in Seattle. We are currently working on plans and will post info when it is known.

I hope I get to see the friends from this last weekend and meet everyone new, next year!

Ha! You beat me to it Aketuan! Great summary. (just playing catch up as I've just woken up to the sound of New York!

On the Saturday, Brookes Peck came to see us after the panel discussion. I asked him how long the exhibition would be there and he confirmed it would be for 15 months before going on tour. He added that they would be discussing with the powers that be about touring outside the US after that.

So as Aketaun said there is definitely a desire for another single combined meet up and with each of the two taking place having about 20 attendees it is highly likely that the next one will exceed 40!

When I get home, I'll start gathering so thoughts together, along with the info we got from the survey we conducted earlier in the year regarding an Avatar Con, which should help give bit of a steer to us in taking the next steps forward.

Right, now to brave the heat of New York!

Alan

Agreed!!! Another thought would be a "structured" daily schedule....create signup "sheets" & multiple activities to do during the day. The evening "should" be a clan together time like this meetup was..worked very well!!!!

You know what, I kinda like it! We did have some itineraries prepared for this meet up, but they were not really required as we were getting our full on Avatar fix. I really enjoyed the together time in the evenings, even though I was worn put by then.

Meals times for 40+ aysmuk will be interesting and something we will need to consider for evening times. Also getting a cinema showing of Avatar is something we talked about, especially if it could be at the IMAX!

All to be put on the 'to do' list.

Well not long until I have to start making my way back to the UK. Currently being fried to a frazzle in Times Square as I type this! 95F - a bit different to a rather comfortable Seattle! Phew!

Oh, don't let the heat in NYC get to you too much, Alan! Of course I felt the same heat & humidity here in NJ today. I miss that wonderful Seattle weather we had over the weekend!
Anyway, I agree -- we should try as hard as we can to convince the IMAX in Seattle to have an Avatar showing for us for next year's meetup -- how awesome would that be!

Sounds more than good to me Aketuan! I am already excited for this possibility to become reality! It was really awesome to meet you as well and it was so neat how all of us seemed to "gel" so well with one another. A true "blue" family we have definitely become.
