Also, I don't actually see that Snopes denies this at all, it just states different stories. Just becase accounts conflict, does not mean everything said is automatically incorrect.
Besides, who made Snopes the god of truth all of a sudden?

No, articles did not conflict, there were no articles produced by local papers mentioning the hospitalization of the thief.

Of course, the fact that in this story he was named Tyrone Jackson is just a piece of racial stereotyping as well.

Dear God!! This thread became violent quick. O.O There's a couple of things I might as well add to this fray of opinions.
1) HNM, that's pretty pathetic calling the Marine Corp a bunch of dangerous thugs. The story may be fake(?) but even so, you bashed them for nearly killing a guy who tried to kill their buddy with a knife, FROM THE BACK! Again, I've read all you guys have posted, but still, saying that, whether it's fake or not, is an all-time low for you. 2) How the heck is a guy's name racial stereotyping? Black people usually have black names. It's just the way it is. 3) How are you going to say the Marines, America's toughest fighting force, that only less than 1% of all Americans are capable of making into it, should not be tought to kill people. That's the only thing they're tought. It doesn't matter if you're going to be a mechanic or a chef, you're always a soldier first. 4)AC130StandingBy, I didn't post this b/c I thought it was pointless and petty. I posted it b/c I thought it was funny and that ToS could use a good laugh, fake or not. And really, (even though it's being called fake) how is a couple of Marines beating the **** out of a guy for stabbing their buddy an act of stupidity? REALLY? That's an act of brotherhood; something you're gonna learn the hard way if you are going into the Marines with a view like that. Last edited by Uk Tsamsiyu; 06-09-2011 at 08:38 PM. |

That's why they're considered "black" names I think.

The marines I see around town are rude, loud, and purposely intimidating. I've been addressed by and spoken to other people in other branches, and they are almost always polite, even if they're faking it. It's no secret that the Marines tend to take in a lot of people with violent tendencies. If you believe all that "hoo-rah" stuff, you're being fed lies. Just make sure that you do your research before you blindly commit yourself to a cause that is inherently morally inconsistent.

It is racial stereotyping in that someone robbing a shop is fictionalised as a black person when no race is given (and with a somewhat stereotypical name, at that).
As for marines, you can have your opinion of them just as I do, I don't have a problem with that.

So you're angry that they're stereotyping a criminal, then turn around and stereotype marines?

Regardless of the circumstances, there are more ways then just violence to stop crimes and problems. Just gives more of a stereotype to the marines themselves.
