I read that the native americans did also clear the underbrush - for firewood but also by creating small wildfires to keep the forests good for hunting and walking. So I guess some things make sense, but I am not sure that cutting selected trees and leaving them to rot is helping. At least it provides some wildlife habitat though for forestfloor dwellers. But if they want to create an area that is without human influence (and that is what they seem to intend) there should be no cutting needed and if there are storms or floods or fires - it will recover accordig to its abilities.

Im trying to get out more and do more. I'm training to go on the Half Dome hike again this summer. Yosemite is about 80 minute drive through the foothills and Sierra Nevada mountains. Also looking forward to volunteering in Yosemite this summer.

Not really Pandoran, but I believe they're beautiful (it's nature, after all)

Had to climb a tree for this one:

If I ever come up to Seattle to see the Avatar exhibit, I'm also going to take a visit to nearby Olympic National Park! Never been there, but I'd really love to and it sure looks pretty. Anyone for a ToS hiking trip next time there's a meetup?

Here's a rough Photomerge from the vacation I recently returned from. If you haven't guessed from the file name, this is Niagara Falls.

The falls are bright and kinda washed out only because it was hard to match the low shutter speed for the landscape plus the high shutter speed for the falls, and still make it blend normally in Photoshop.

Meetup 2012... yes, I definitely plan to come. If hiking is in the cards... be it!
