Oh my gosh! I've seen that one tons of times, and I think it's great! The guy who makes these trailers is very talented!

good for a fan made trailer, and for me exactly what I would like to see the sequals be about, at least tone wise..as in that intense. But for me I dont want to see it just being more the Na'vi vs the humans again. I think it would be cooler, and more interesting if Cameron introduces another alien race, perhaps a hostile one that have their own reasons for wanting Pandora, that might require the humans to team up with the Na'vi
And no I dont want that because I "like the marines", I want that because I like Cameron's films, and imho, Aliens and T2 are still his two best, and I would just like to see him make an intense action movie like that again....but set in the Avatarverse.... |

Plus....in order to blow an audience away again, and to make a sequal that isnt just a rehash of the first, surely Cameron has to up the stakes, and up the ante?
Maybe its just me, but I believe that the key to making good sequals is to make a completely different film, just with the same characters and set in the same universe.... |

Not really. Making a film different just alienates everyone who liked it, while it fails to being in a new audience - if they didn't like the first, they won't be interested in the sequel. Avatar is not a war film and I honestly doubt it ever will be, so I really do not like this trailer.
Good sequels expand the story and universe while keeping the same elements and style. Avatar is not a war film, and people are not expected or encouraged to side with the marines. Doing so would run completely against the film's message. I'd argue that the humans siding with the Na'vi would do that if it involved the marines, and would prompt 'unrealistic' complaints.

I hear what you are saying....but I would like to point out that Alien (which was resolutely a horror film) was nt an action film....but Aliens sure as hell was, and I dont see too many people complaining about that.
Secondly, Avatar is itself made up of various genres....its sci-fi, fantasy, adventure, romance, and yes even some war, so I fail to see how the focus of a sequals would or could not change. Third, I would have to disagree with you that good sequals only expand the story and universe.....look at the best sci-fi sequals Empire strikes back not only expanded the story and universe, its tone was much darker and adult, and its ending was very downbeat compared to the first Star Wars. and Cameron's own two sequals were both different genres to the previous films. Both Aliens and T2 were action films that did indeed expand the story and universe compared to both Alien and T1 being horror films (T1 is basically a slasher film). Lets even look at the second season of Cameron's Dark Angel, it too was basically a different genre compared to the first season which was like a "Fugitive" type show, while the second season was more like the X-men..... Based on all these things I dont see how its illogical to assume that Cameron would at least take a similar approach to the Avatar sequals... And just because there is a war, does not mean the Avatar sequals would be actual "war films"....but even if thats not the case, imho the sequals simply cant be just more exploring Pandora.....I realize that many people find that beautiful etc...but for a lot of people it would also get boring fast.... Remember this is all just my two cents.... |

I really liked it! Like HNM though, I thought it lacked that beauty touch to it... It is however a very well made fake trailer and the maker should be proud.

I would think that it probably has been written, if JC is making it right now.

Don't hope on that, probably developing and thinking of the story first.

You don't think he's written it yet? I would think so, given how early he started writing Avatar. I'm sure he's been thinking about what's coming next for a while.

Exactly - it's fake, made by someone who wants it to be a war film and probably didn't like Avatar - see my previous post.

All possibilities, as there is NO rumor or even a tiny proof of that he has started writing it. I'm sure he is, but it isn't finished yet, you know what I mean? As the rumors are going on about now it should be done 2014. And to be honest, I CANNOT WAIT to see the sequal, gah.

All I know is, I'd be incredibly nervous about even picking a year for a sequel I hadn't written yet
Just me though.

JC knows he can get it done, especially after making Avatar. Of course, having the motion capture and having already made Avatar means that a shot can start being produced as soon as the motion capture is done, so there won't be as much of a wait between filming and having a usable film.
