Well, there is that novel meant to fill in the backstory that James Cameron has supposedly been writing...no idea when it will be out though.
Can't blame him, though; he's gotta be a really busy guy.

Indeed - there is no sign of that yet.
There aren't any other novels, just the books The Art of Avatar, The Making of Avatar, and the Avatar Collector's Vault. I have all three and they are well worth it

so far no significant news of the Avatar novel, it's meant to come out this year but it's already past halfway of the year so i don't think we will be getting it this year
maybe next yearthis is what Jon Landau said: “It would be something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but it would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn’t have time to deal with — like the schoolhouse and Sigourney [Weaver's character] teaching at the schoolhouse; Jake on Earth and his backstory and how he came here; [the death of] Tommy, Jake’s brother; and Colonel Quaritch, how he ended up there and all that.”

Pretty sure I read, too, that the novel isn't a novelization - it's more 'if Avatar the movie was inspired by a book, what would the book be like'. Which sounds very interesting - the original script had far, far more subtleties and characters than the movie, and some other differences (for instance, Jake/Josh didn't just get up and run, which seems far more realistic). Which'll be nice, I think, so there is a difference between book and movie for those of us who write fic and would prefer not to have everything Jossed *g*

JC needs to learn how to advertise and merchandise better, for real. All that time away from the public eye has made him forget how it's done. Get it together, bro

I really want it too... but I'm ahppy to wait for it to be good.
I want some backstory of Grace, as well as Neytiri and Sylwanin, or otherwise, of first contact

A bit off topic since its not an Avatar Novel but alot like Avatar in a way,
the short story Call me Joe from Poul Anderson. I really liked it, and amazing to think the story is from the fifty's. The only bad thing about it is that the story ends way too soon ![]() Oh and its also quite technically written, so maybe not for all people. Anyway well worth reading! |
