Thank you.
Yes, go ahead and put me on the list as the photog.

Could be fun to go on the (proposed) hike with the costumes. But I'm guessing the costumes are kinda a one day thing?

I got the tube for my bow from Home Depot. I went to their carpet section and asked if they had any spare carpet center tubes. They had a stack of them (about 4"~5" diameter), along with some smaller tubes (~3") on the same pile that turned out perfect. They gave one to me for free. I just cut it to length (about 6 inches longer than my bow) at home and put some padding in there with the bow & arrows.

To travel with it; I simply checked it as a bow. No questions asked. (A bow is standard sporting equipment after all.)
Flying down I had 2 suitcases plus my bow, they charged me for 2 cases total (light cases, so they took my bow for free). Flying home I only had one case and my bow; they charged me for both that time. So the total cost to get it to Seattle was the one $20 bag fee.

And if you can't find a cardboard tube, you can always buy a plastic tube used for shipping/checking fishing rods. They cost around $30-$50, and are available in most sporting goods stores; including my local Fred Meyer. The plus side is that they are often telescoping so you can set them to the exact length, and they are quite spacious. The down side is that they are plastic; something that I want none of involved in my bow project.

I've found a guy on deviantart who has made a replica of Jake's gun, he says he takes commissions! Hmmm...

Other things I will be doing costume wise (prob by November):

New version of my facial prosthetic.

Attempt to make silicone Na'vi ears.

Having the cosplay on one of the more official days would ensure more people would be able to do it. I thought about the dressing up for the hiking trip separately from the cosplay, because it'd be such a good setting for pictures, but this costume is a kind that takes hours of preparation, and I'd need the proper equipment, like running water and a mirror. Depending on how and when we'd get to the campground the first day sort of dictates whether it's even a possibility. Also, after a day of being a Na'vi I get sort of burned out on it and don't want to go through the paint process for some time. Also, being painted puts a lot of little restrictions on what you can do if you don't want it to run. I can't sweat so I have to wear antiperspirants (something I don't like doing) and not do any activities where I'd start sweating. If it's a hot day hiking at a moderate pace would probably make me sweat a little bit.

For 30-50 dollars I'd rather buy a 2nd longbow, I'll definitely try homedepot first, thanks.

This is going to be the largest group of Avatar cosplayers together in one place to date, it certainly will be awesome. I'm super psyched.
I have an idea about where to take some pictures that won't require us cosplayers to travel very far. On the Friday when we all first scoped out the museum together, I noticed that there was a nice garden near the museum, sort of on the path to the Space Needle and opposite the side where the street was. I remember making a comment about how cool it would look to have the cosplayers get their pictures taken there. Of course, I forgot. I do remember that there were some cool looking plants and trees there. I think that would be a good place to take some pictures. What do you guys think of that? Does anybody else recall seeing that garden?

I think I do kind of remember that, I'm trying to find it with google satellite view, but my internet is so bad right now.

I just found the "denny park" 8 blocks from the museum.

We'll take a look at the possible locations a day or two before the cosplay.

It would be cool if we could get a background that looked very foresty, like no buildings in sight at all

For real! Everyone should get in on this, even if it's only a little bit (a half ass RDA costume would cut it, or some face paint or na'vi jewelry). Man, if we can really all look like we belong in the same picture, all of us, we'll really stand out as a clan

The Home Depot carpet tube is an excellent idea! I might look at the fishing pole tube if they are on sale. I may also try to contact the people I got the bow from.

Let us see your face and ears ISV Venture Star. The Reelmagic are very good. They even have the veins painted on the ears, but my ear lobe sticks out of the bottom and I have to putty it to make it look right. I'm cutting back the face prosethitic to see my eyes more

Sarah, if you go to facebook and look in my Seattle meetup album, you'll find a photo of part of the garden. I took this as we were coming out of the Space Needle. This should give you an idea as to what the garden is like.

Why not try making some silicone ears with a hollow in it so you can slip them over your own ears?
