We all know every person who is a member of this site is a fan of 'Avatar'. But we don't know what other films and genres everyone else loves besides 'Avatar' or if they like any other movies and genres BESIDES 'Avatar'. So this is the thread to explain just that. What other films and genres do you love besides 'Avatar'? Do you like any others at all?
I'll start. Other genres I love are...well, basically every genre in 'Avatar': romance, action, sci-fi, etc. Everything except horror, super cheesy, and over the top gushy romance. Though the only horror film I like is 'Halloween', the original. Everything else I don't like or hate. Other films I love are: 'Rendition', 'Princess Mononoke', 'A Time To Kill', 'My Neighbor Totoro', 'Surf's Up', 'Howl's Moving Castle', 'Sherlock Holmes', 'Tron:Legacy', 'Transformers', and last but not least....'Cars' from Pixar. I LOVE IT. I love Pixar films, but this one is the greatest in my opinion. There are many more I'm sure, but I don't want to take up three pages with this thread. So continue, all! ![]() *And ask people to join in on this. I'm really curious and I'm sure many others are as well! |

-sci fi: Avatar, District 9 are the big 2
-car movies: Fast & the Furious series is my favourite -comedy: don't have a favourite but many comedies i like -action: anything with lots of fighting or cool action seens and sunts, there are lots of average films but its a good genre to just have fun and go watch with friends -animation: don't know if this is a genre on its own but i find that animation films manage to tie in many elements together like adventure, comedy, romance etc. my 2 favourites are easily Monsters Inc. and WALL-E, both made by Pixar

In my childhood, I was socialized (only partly, of course) by Captain James T. Kirk...
![]() I was allowed by my parents to pick one TV show to watch regularly, and at that time (early 1970s... yep, I'm old!), the original and classic Star Trek was running on German television every Saturday. Since it had all those space opera adventures and stories about other worlds, I got hooked on SF and space opera early on. It was also the time of the final missions of the Apollo program, and I remember seeing the pictures of Apollo 16 and the lunar rover on TV, too. During my youth, from the early 1980s on, it was the time of nice fantasy movies coming out, including one of my all-time favourites: The Dark Crystal. During that time, I also developed a quite keen interest in movie scores (also to set a different trend than my elder brothers, with one liking psychedelic rock and the other classic music - what a bandwidth to grow up with, huh?). So, with SF/space opera still being strong, fantasy movies joined that and later on, I developed a strong interest in anime, mostly those with an SF or fantasy/myth theme. I'd say, these are the strongest interests in movies still active. And, to be sure, James Cameron had a big part in fueling those with Aliens, The Abyss and his Terminator movies. And then, there came Avatar... ![]() Wiggling bare toes, ~*Txim Asawl*~

Scifi mostly, but I like some of a lot except for romantic comedy, with maybe a couple of exceptions. Horror is very much hit or miss, but some of it is still good.

I LOVE Science Fiction, and any film that can couple a rich universe with a rock solid story. I'm not sure if I can say, but Children of Men is an excellent example.
I love the short indie film, like the 20min short films. The creators pour their hearts and talents into producing them, and they turn out great. They populate Youtube and just about any video database out there, you only need to do some digging. |

I love movies that have a little something in them. A different quirk, or twist.
Inside Man and 3000 Miles to Graceland are some lovely examples. Also, I do love comedies, the funny ones that is. You don't mess with the Zohan, paired with Ferris Bueller's day off, I completely adored.

Super-hero movies!!!! Captain America, Spider-man . . . every single one of them . . . cept for green lantern. Mostly cuz the movie looked kinda dumb. But OMG I got so excited with the new spiderman reboot trailer! If you haven't seen it, I suggest you do! Cuz it looks so much better than the Sam Raimi ones, and I loved them, so this is going to be awsome!
But especially BATMAN ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!

Sci Fi is one of my favourite genres with great memories of the Star Wars universe, Jurassic Park, Avatar (Of Course) and others that I can't quite remember.
I also really like action/adventure movies, especially the historical leaning ones like Gladiator but also Dragonheart, Braveheart, Kingdom of Heaven. Apart from that I like superheroish movies like V for Vendetta, The Mask, Thor and the Batman series. Of course Cartoons and comedy are great too, like Most of the Disney movies, Monty Python, Mighty Boosh (Not a movie but a great series) ![]() I don't like horror movies or romance movies though.

At last! Another Dragonheart fan! Sean Connery was the voice that made it so good, Denis Quade is funny too.
I guess I should slap myself because I LOVE dragon movies. Reign of Fire, How to Train your Dragon, Dragonheart. Eragon is... yes and no. |

The Eragon film is just bad. It is easily the worst 'film of a book' I've ever seen. Apparently, HTTYD is not much like the book at all (which, admittedly, I haven't read), but they made an original story. The Eragon film is just the book with 2/3 of the story missing (and a different ending), along with several major characters missing, getting the looks and attributes of major characters and locations completely wrong, and then various weird parts added.
