Total Annihilation is a way better strategy game, in my opinion.
You seem to have quite the negative disposition towards these games. Is there any particular reason you hate games so to speak? I mean there are lots of games I find tedious or uninteresting, but I find the term hate a bit out of place, or is it just arguing semantics?

Now if there only were good GW games to begin with, but then again their main focus is on the tabletop thing anyways, and PC gaming is just a licensing side branch for some additional income.

StarCraft (1) I simply find completely uninteresting - I love RTS games, but this one is just repetetive and boring to me. Regarding StarCraft 2, I really like its single-player campaign, but again, I find the MP part plain boring.

I do like some Blizzard games though. Warcraft III is awesome, I've played through the SP campaign many times, and I make my own maps quite often. Diablo 2 is a bit of a special case - I find it to be absolutely awesome in SP - but absolutely horrible in MP (hmm, a recurring pattern there, eh? ).

So regarding these games, I like some, and find others uninteresting. World of Warcraft though, that's another story...

As for the game itself, again it's mostly about uninterest - there is nothing that compels me to play it, and I dislike MP games in general - especially MMO's. But there's more to it than that. The game has changed both individuals, the game industry, and to a degree parts of society - in ways I can feel nothing else but hate for. The success of the game and thus the genre, has set in motion many trends in the game industry that I find is going to make things much worse in the future.

It's also about what effect the game has had on people I know - I don't want to give out any details there, but suffice to say that the consequences has made me feel very strong negative feelings towards the game.

So in conclusion - the game I simply dislike. It's what the game has done, that I hate.

Well then you are very much like me, since I play most games in their single player mode. That I guess has partly to do with me being embarrassingly bad at them, but I'm really much more comfortable playing on my own than with others. Then again it's absolutely blast to play certain games with friends one is already familiar with.

The games you mentioned are so awesome as single-player games, so it makes me wonder why would you dislike them based on their multiplayer aspect. For most games I take the Yahtzee approach, that I don't give a flying **** about multiplayer, but it can be a great addition if all appropriate things are in order.

When I played WoW, I enjoyed playing with friends, but once I had nothing in common to do with them ingame, since they were so much more hardcore compared to my rather casual stance, I started to level alts and basically played the game like any other single-player game.

The thing about WoW's success and the success of many other Blizzard tittles can be attributed to their understanding of good functional core mechanics that make their games enjoyable. For counter example I present Bioware, since their games are awesome in story and presentation, but many core gameplay mechanics are sometimes really annoying. I absolutely loved Dragon Age Origin for it's story and dialogue, but the game was annoying as hell to play due to the combat system being so weird and inbalanced character skill trees.

But the detrimental effects of any games are not fault of the game itself but rather those who choose to play them in such fashion that it becomes harmful. That is to say that people have much bigger issues behind addictions of all sorts, be it alcohol, drugs or what have you. For example, there will always be some people having issues with alcohol while some may never have, so the problem is not in the product so to speak.

But that's exactly what I do - as I said, I like those games. I really like Starcraft 2, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. Sure, I dislike the MP components of these games but I simply don't care about those.

As for WoW - I understand what you mean, but I have reasons beyond those I expressed here. I chose not to reveal them for my own personal reasons, but rest assured - a deep hatred will always burn inside my heart.

Absolutely not. I'll stick to the single player experiences of DoW, Space Marine, Fire Warrior, and DoW 3 when it arrives.

Oh and, of course - reading 40k novels.

I'm still heavily involved in custom mapmaking for wcIII. Here is my current project, a multiplayer map (I've had others in the past):

I can understand your reasoning, but the way you worded it makes absolutely no sense.

Relic does RTS pretty damn well. DoW and DoWII are really great games.

No.

DoW is a great game.

DoWII is utterly horrible.

Ah well, each to his own...
