Default Fan Film and Avatar Anniversary!

Kaltxì ma eylan,

Well, can you believe it! It is coming up to 1 year since the release of Avatar SE in the cinemas with those extra minutes for us to soak up, including the most emotional scene that has ever gripped me - Yep Tsu'tey's death.

However, before I could go and watch it there was this one thing that I needed to do: launch the Avatar Fan film - Our Only Home.

The project was started on 25th May 2010, initially on Avatar Forums, but it wasn't long before the good people from here joined in. In total there were 20 of us from 9 countires taking part.

It was a frantic last two weeks before the release of Avatar SE to get our film finished. I just know there would be no chance of continuing past the release of Avatar as we would all be in the cinema!

So on 26th August, Our Only Home was released on iTunes and You Tube, the day before Avatar SE entered the cinemas. Shortly after the iPhone app of the same name was released containing a quiz and a copy of the fan film. Eveyone who took part in the film received a copy of the film.

But did anything happen with our film in the year that has past? Well, subtitled versions of the film were generated, including a 'making of'. The film was entered into the British International Amatuer Film Festival and gained three stars.

But perhaps the best occasion was a mini fan meet up held at the IMAX cinema in Birmingham (UK) just for us to watch Avatar SE on the BIG screen before it left the cinemas. Whilst enquiring with the IMAX manager I mentioned our fan film and asked if it could be shown.

To cut a long story short, on 5th November 2010, our Avatar Fan film was shown on the IMAX screen just before Avatar SE to a public audience.

So ma eylan we now all have something in common with James Cameron: we have all had a film shown in an IMAX cinema!

Happy AVATAR SE anniversary ma aysmukan sì aysmuke.

Eywa ngahu,

Alan
