I just thought of a problem...
This movie was so much better when I saw it alone, I was able to let myself go completely, and not worry about what my friends are thinking next to me, if they see me crying, see me longing for Neytiri and Pandora... well when I bring the DVD home, I want to watch it alone as well... as if in no one else inside the house. But that'll be hard seeing how I'm still living at home with my mom, dad, and sister. I probably won't be able to watch the movie thursday night (April 22nd) when its released seeing my schedual and all, and the next night I'm DJing for a school dance so I'll probably be exhausted (Sometimes after I DJ I hardly have the energy to take all the stuff out of my car) so I'll most likely see it on Saturday... what should I do? Should I tell my family to go out and do something each time I want to experience the movie? This movie is sacred to me, I'm not going to watch it unless I'm going to watch it all the way through with absolutely no distractions... I need to experience this movie each time I watch it. I'm hopefully going to move out by the end of this year, but I can't wait that long to experience this movie! I'm going crazy now and I saw it two weeks ago (I want to see it Friday)... I wanted to see it again the next night anyways. So what do you think I should do? |

I've thought the same thing too man. I've decided that I won't watch it if it's a situation that will affect my viewing. Most of the time I'll probably be watching it on my computer with my stereo, noise cancelling headphones
Oh and off subject, is the camping trip still on? I hadn't logged in for a week or so and when I got back Shattnerpossum had left and I can't find the thread on either site. If you could message me I'd appreciate it Tsmukan. |

I'm in the same boat, Stanley. I don't expect "Mom, Dad, Sis -- get outta the house so I can watch my movie" to go over very well, and I don't have any good solution for you.
The only advice I can think of is to watch Avatar wearing headphones after your parents and sister have gone to sleep, although watching it when you're tired isn't the best solution (and a proper sound system would be nice, unless you've a decent pair of headphones -- my iPod earbuds don't quite cut it ).

Go to a friend's house and watch it together if they've been like you addicted to Avatar and understand you.
If not, just put the door lock and say you're going to be watching a movie for 2h 40m. You can make some microwave popcorn and all

Hmm, maybe find a time when they are not home. I know that might be difficult or you could invest in buying your own tv and blu-ray player to go in your room so you can watch it in peace

Thanks a lot for the responses everybody.
No my friends don't See Avatar the way I do unfortunantly... like they thought the movie was good and all, but they just didn't feel the emotions I felt for the movie. And I just thought, my dad and I built a play house type thing for my sister for one of her birthdays, and I mean it pretty much is a smaller type house I'll have to post pictures later, but what I could do is take the smaller plasma TV we have out in the kitchen (It's a kind of small screen, but bigger than my laptop, but those don't compare to the TV in the den), take that plasma TV, my still-need-to-aquire Blue-Ray player, see if I can use the surround sound system on that TV, and if so see if I can use the speakers for the surround sound and bring it all into the play house, or my room. Sound for me is no problem, I've got 3 different amps, 2 pairs of speakers, and the surround sound out in the den. It's getting the big TV and the alone time thats the problem... |

I understand you that you want to watch Avatar in total peace with no distractions. If you could just get the TV into your room, since you say sound isn't the problem.
Usually when I watch movies, I never get distracted because my family knows I'm watching a movie and I let them have it if they distract me. Plus no one ever comes into my room anyway. I have my TV, Blu Ray player and surround sound in my room so I don't have a problem there. (My room is basically my Home Theatre. ) If you have a good pair of headphones, you could watch Avatar on your computer or you could plug your headphones into your TV or receiver and watch Avatar that way. But I do understand that watching Avatar in total peace is the only way.

I'd suggest they go out somewhere. I'm lucky in that I don't live with my family, so I can watch Avatar uninterrupted and by myself.

But its different with me, feeling the spectacle in a screen full with emmersed, excited people, that audience participation is what makes film magical to me

this puts a hole in my plans... people in my house are a problem, i have a small TV, no sound system, a window with glare, rude-ish family, and none of the other houses i could use are too much better... I won't watch if I can't Experience it...

Hmmm... Get yourself a very good pair of headphones (I'm sure you've got nicer ones than I'll ever own for DJ'ing), and watch it at night. Or, find a place like your play house or room and ask that you not be disturbed for the evening/a couple hours/etc. Also, if the parents and sister are ever away, use that opportunity to your advantage!
Short of finding somewhere other than your house, there isn't a whole lot else to do I'm afraid

You can do what my sister does, scream at anyone who disturbs your experience and then they will get the hint eventually
