Default Fan Film and Avatar Anniversary!

Kaltxì ma eylan,

Well, can you believe it! It is coming up to 1 year since the release of Avatar SE in the cinemas with those extra minutes for us to soak up, including the most emotional scene that has ever gripped me - Yep Tsu'tey's death.

However, before I could go and watch it there was this one thing that I needed to do: launch the Avatar Fan film - Our Only Home.

The project was started on 25th May 2010, initially on Avatar Forums, but it wasn't long before the good people from here joined in. In total there were 20 of us from 9 countires taking part.

It was a frantic last two weeks before the release of Avatar SE to get our film finished. I just know there would be no chance of continuing past the release of Avatar as we would all be in the cinema!

So on 26th August, Our Only Home was released on iTunes and You Tube, the day before Avatar SE entered the cinemas. Shortly after the iPhone app of the same name was released containing a quiz and a copy of the fan film. Eveyone who took part in the film received a copy of the film.

But did anything happen with our film in the year that has past? Well, subtitled versions of the film were generated, including a 'making of'. The film was entered into the British International Amatuer Film Festival and gained three stars.

But perhaps the best occasion was a mini fan meet up held at the IMAX cinema in Birmingham (UK) just for us to watch Avatar SE on the BIG screen before it left the cinemas. Whilst enquiring with the IMAX manager I mentioned our fan film and asked if it could be shown.

To cut a long story short, on 5th November 2010, our Avatar Fan film was shown on the IMAX screen just before Avatar SE to a public audience.

So ma eylan we now all have something in common with James Cameron: we have all had a film shown in an IMAX cinema!

Happy AVATAR SE anniversary ma aysmukan sì aysmuke.

Eywa ngahu,

Alan

The meetup was great - I just wish I had had a way to contribute to the actual film back then.

It looks like you all had a fun time at the meetup. To have your own film shown on IMAX was a stroke of genius too! I wonder how many fora on the internet have had so many members meet face to face, this place is truly one of a kind

Yeah, it was. I still find it amazing that Unil Makto came all the way over from the US to join us...although I think he was using up some air miles! Aye, well you did contribute cos you came all the way up to Birmingham to join us and it was great meeting you.

It was mate. We're you the chappy who couldn't make it as it was fireworks night and you had to work that night?

I must admit my jaw hit the floor when the Manager said yes to showing our film. I remember ringing up from work and was a bit nervous, but if you don't ask you don't get. She was really nice and amazingly trusting. It really worked out well. We made an Avatar card and took it to her the following week with a couple of boxes of chocolates for her and the projection team.

I guess when forum friends meet up it is a sign of how close knit and mature the forum has become. And hey, we are no looking forward to a mass meet up in Seattle next year. Hope you can make it ma tsmukan.

Aye, it was me. I'd love to come to Seattle next year but it's just a case of finding money for the trip. I am but a poor student

It was great to have you on board ma tsmuke and actually meet you at last too! I still remember looking for you outside the Bus station in New York with Tirol!

Thought it was ma 'eylan. As for saving for the trip next year, could you save, say £2,500, between now and then? That works out at...£52 to save per week. Is it do-able?

You can find more info in the Seattle 2012 area here: Seattle Meetup 2012 - Tree of Souls - An Avatar Community Forum
