I came up with an idea last night to make up some Atokirina earrings on the xmas break after uni. I have the reference pics and everything but the thing that bugs me is what material to use for the delicate tendrils.
I've figured that I should make the base of the atokirina out of jewelry wire and turn it upwards into a fish hook so you can insert it into the ear..The earrings would be large chandelier type ones about half the size of a fist. Does anyone here have any suggestions of materials that I could use to make the rest of the atokirina? It's hard because the tendrils are feathery but plant based.

Try fiber optic light fibers. I use the battery operated hair pieces with lights on them for Woodspites in my hair. they are very thin, bendable, and very easy to cut. If you really wanted to you could put a tiny battery on them to operate them.

Oh wow that's a great idea! Thank you very much, it looks to be the right texture!
Does the optic light fibres come in sizes of varying thickness? Also, do you have any supply site that I can look at?

you could use netting for the tendrals or you could go modern and use wire and spraypaint the wire silver/blue or use delicate chains, put a small piece of metal pionting out for each tendral and attach the chain

ExtremeDeal is out of China. Cheap prices, but slow and lousy service. Amazon, great service, faster, a little more expensive. Google light fibers. There's a million site

Sounds very cool Pa'li. Probably something you could sell on Etsy, if you didn't mention where they were from

this is a great idea, but how do you want to do it? are you going to make the piercing bit come out of the thorny bulb part? or is it just going to be a flat cutout of the Atokirina? my mum used to make necklaces and wrist bands using beads so looking at her stuf, i could probably throw in some ideas. for the endrils you could use some thin plastic wire and glue them together.
btw i've wanted to replace my 3rd piercing for a while so if you have ideas for something cool then do share

Awesome.
I was thinking of having a fish hook that would come out of the top of the Atokirina but the atokirina itself I want to be 3D. ![]() I like the fibre optic idea the most because the colour of them is normally that light blue colour and it's pretty thin but if you know of any plastic that is similar feel free to share. ![]() 3rd piercing aye? Where is it? EDIT: I mulled it over in my head when I was walking to uni an hour ago..I think the metal wire would look better..although I might try making two copies, a fibre optic one and a metal one painted light blue.

i've got used guitar strings that have no use so you could use the high E string (0.009 guage) as the tendrils. for the bottom bulb part you might try using beads and drill a hole through the middle. superglue everything into the hole and that should do
if you want the string just pm your address and i'll send it through the mail.

Using beads for the bulb is a great idea, I'm sure I can get some beads from Lincraft. I might not have a drill that fine but I think I can get some beads with a hole through the middle...Cheers for the info friend. ![]() As for the metal earrings, I might buy some metal wire and find some way to weld them all to a bulb shape..I wonder if I can use a naked flame...

Thin enough wire can be bent by hand without a problem. Using a flame will change the colour of most metals as it can oxidise them.

superglue works fine, the stuff is really strong, just make sure you dont glue your fingers together XD

Awesome. I'm not experienced at welding but I'm great at using superglue. Boot glue I've found is the best for sticking little things together because it has a quick and strong hold. I'd have to twist lots of wires together to make the bulb though.
