Default 3rd Party Writers for Avatar Franchise...

A question to the people...

Does anyone know if James Cameron has interest in 3rd party writers to create stories within his "Avatar" universe?

If so...does anyone know how to contact him or his representatives? I've looked across several sites and there doesn't seem to be anything standing out...so I thought I'd pose the question here on the forum. Perhaps I've over looked it or just not looked in the right place yet. Thanks in advance...

Well, if he's going to write the whole avatar bible, I wouldn't think he'd be looking for writers just yet. Just my opinion though, I don't know for sure.

I think if he were allowing it, he'd probably be pretty passive about it.

He's mentioned it in a couple of interviews, it's part of how he's writing the book, to get things defined so that nobody else can make anything up that messes with it.

Personally, I'm a bit worried about anyone else writing for it, as there's always a big risk of a loss of quality there.

Well, depending on the writer, that might be very difficult indeed. (And before you suggest anything, no I'm not interested or involved.)

Did Lucas write a SW Bible?

Didn't he? I thought so.
To some extent, quality is a matter of opinion. If you don't like it, don't read it-- feel free to despise it from afar

There was a thread on this on Avatar Forums a while back. Sorry to rain on your parade, but any author who gets official blessing to publish under the Avatar brand will have to be (a) very successful already, (b) very well connected, and (c) very lucky. And as HNM says, quality control is an issue, and we know how Cameron is about that, so to that list you can add (d) able to work under overbearing micromanagement and exhausting demands, onsite in Southern California.

Fan fiction is the only realistic outlet for anyone this side of whoever that "lucky" guy/gal turns out to be (almost certainly a name as recognizable as, say, Alan Dean Foster, James Rollins, or David Gerrold).

That's about what I expected but you never know for certain until you ask. =)

I figured the question had come up before at some point. Looks like fan fiction is the best we can hope for until JC is ready for us to get something more official. Thanks to all for the input. =)
