Clive Barker's Jericho:
(Story explained in 3rd video) Granted the AI isn't the smartest ever, yet the backstory of the characters and the main story is the best I've seen. Using an US Occult warfare division to stop the firstborn from taking more of the world into the pyxis and going through hellish eras of Rome, Crusades, WWII and Sumeria to confront the firstborn. Clive Barker is a master at creating a good horror story and interesting enemies as well as an engaging story, plus all the characters have unique abilities and you use the leader even after he has been killed. The areas that you go into are huge and they also have interesting touches, such as roman mosaics and crucifixes around.
