I can think of several ways that this could be used to improve the efficiency of power generation systems, although that really is dependent on the properties of the material itself. I will have to read the paper that was linked to on AF for that.

What we really need is for this kind of discovery to be used in tandem with superconductive materials and then we would start taking some really important steps!

It is really great all the new technological advances in science these days, now all we need to do is make them better and put them to work for us.

Sadly, to keep on getting these advances we do actually need to pay for them... or at least pay the people working on them. That is something that many governments have been pretty unhappy about doing during the most recent global recession. Hopefully that pendulum will swing back, now that things are looking rosier, but it has meant a fair number of people out of work and so a slow-down in project completion and development.
