This is really cool XD Octopuses (Octopi? I don't know the plural) are great and would make great rulers of Earth if we ceased to be, probably better ones than us

Very interesting
 A lot of the more intelligent animals aren't understood as well as they could be (e.g. crows, which use tools similarly to primates). Quote:
 On the other hand, 'evolving sentience' is not something that will happen at some point. Evolution is not a programmed path. Real life is not Pokemon. For them to do so would require some selective pressure for the more intelligent to survive and reproduce more often than random chance would give as an advantage to any individual.

In the BBC TV-series "The Future is Wild" they speculated about future cephalopods that had taken the leap up on land. One of these, the "squibbon" even lived up in the trees. The squibbon also showed remarkable intelligens and could be the next really intelligent being on the planet (since man had disappeared many, many million years earlier).

 BRO! I saw that series when I was young and impressionable. The next day, I went to school to my fifth grade class and told everyone about it. They probably thought I was nuts  Anyway, ever since then, there has been a special place in my heart for cephalopods

It left an impression on me as well and I only saw it a month or two ago. Now I cannot even think of eating octopus. I think of them as the superior to man..Eventually they can be in charge of the earth and I wonder what they will do about the Earth's situation..

Again, there would need to be a selective pressure for that to happen. Evolution does not work like in pokemon

That will only happen if there is some selective pressure for intelligence - e.g. improved survival rates from tool use and communication.
