Oh boy, I'm such a slacker! I need to get back to this, don't I! I made two different one-joint prototypes, one of which is geared, another of which uses two scissor-like hinges to transfer the angle from the side to the top of the finger. Both were too thick to comfortably place between the fingers, however, so I've been daydreaming about ways to address that. Unfortunately, the lathe and mill are my dad's, not mine, so I have to book time at his place every time I want to validate a theory.
![]() I did try one other rubber sensor approach, which I was hugely excited about, but which turned out to be a miserable failure: I bought liquid latex rubber and mixed in powdered graphite. My hope was to just totally sink a fabric glove in this stuff, and then be able to just attach electrodes around points of interest to measure the tension. Unfortunately, by the time I'd added enough graphite to achieve measurable conductivity, the stuff just wasn't stretchy enough, and would start cracking around the knuckles pretty quickly. Damn! I was so proud of myself for thinking of that, too. Oh well...Anyway, if the holidays afford me some time to return to this project, I definitely will. It was a crazy summer of work, which I'm still recovering from by being extremely lazy in my spare time. ![]() EDIT: Wrong color on the model, too. Easy to fix! My hope was to get this hooked up through Maya to a nice-looking model of a Na'vi hand at some point, actually.

Absolutely!
Plus I'll be sure to remove a finger and color everything blue.

It's still a good idea - just because it initially failed doesn't make it impossible
