It is NOT a 'choice' any more then being tall or short is a 'choice'. Quote:
![]() A lot of people have that idea - they say they're fine with it, but only if it's someone else.

It was also completely unexpected. Had I known I had to watch out for her, I would've kept it secret, but one day I just mentioned it, and suddenly NO YOU ARE NOT, this is all because of your group of friends, you can't see them anymore, I'm checking your text messages, etc etc. Needless to say, she thinks I'm straight enough now

![]() I think a lot of people have ideas about what they want, especially with their children, and something like that can come as a shock if it wasn't something they expected to happen.

I guess I should reword it. I don't have anything against gays, and I don't think we should remove their right to be themselves. I've been raised to view gender as a choice, so I'm a bit biased.

Straight.
Although, I don't even think about such things often. A psychiatrist once told me that I might have low testosterone, actually.

Well, the saying I said is mostly just a joke to get people to stop making fun of gays. So it if gets then to stop then that's good. But I will say being gay/bisexual is a bit different than height, because height stops usually by 21 years of age, rarely later (although there are some mutations where one never stops growing, but that's a bit different than simply having the "tall gene"). Also, height is a bit "choice" based, because it is affected to a significant degree by nutrition and stressors, especially at a young age.
Which brings me to another point. I have often wondered if gayness is a gene that can be turned on or off. I know there are some genes in some species that during an "imprinting period" in the organism's life, can be turned on or off by environmental factors. Here's more on genes being affected by environment (link:http://www.nature.com/scitable/topic...expression-536 ) So you know I'm not making this up ![]() I wonder if there are certain genes in humans that can be influenced by our environment/stress experience, that turn on/off certain genes which produce proteins that receive certain chemicals that would in turn make us attracted to a certain gender, or both. Perhaps certain individuals are born so they are more susceptible to these environmental triggers for changes in sexuality to? Now please, don't flame me. I'm just wondering about the genetics behind this out of curiosity. I don't see why there is any reason to think anything different about homo or heterosexuality if it is 'choice' based. edit: had trouble getting link in

Consider yourself lucky, I hate the damn thing. What retarded purpose does facial hair even serve? Other than annoying me by forcing me to shave?

From my understanding, there could be a genetic predisposition towards different orientations, but not completely genetic (identical twins have a higher chance of being the same, but not always) - it is simply how different people develop.
