Well it is rare occasions I admit
- I was lucky this time. What helps me is the possibility to sleep without having to get up instantly - that enables me to go through the dream in all details after I woke up - maybe write it down really fast. Also helps - the strong intention to remember. But re the comic - I think in the first panel - the strategy I try to use is to at this point not get up and walk to the bathroom and then to breakfast but instead stay in bed, think and remember again and again what was in the dream until one is fully awake - then skip bathroom and toothbrush and go directly to the leptop and start writing it down - and then go for the bathroom and all the other morning stuff - Obviously this cannot be done daily, so indeed most mornings are more like the one in your comic... :s

Amazing dream, Aurora! Aren't they strange, those dreams of olden civilizations that seem to have existed such a long time ago that it makes no sense to ask "when"? or maybe we are talking future, like in The Dune really... or maybe it's distance - so far away that it makes no sense to ask "where..."...
Your description gave me weird feelings. I have similar dreams, now I can only remember one that started with me reading an ancient manuscript called Qantza Moru (or Qvantza Mori?) - and the story started unfolding from the pages of the book, the book became a movie, & I was not sure whether it's past, future, or where... & how I managed to "enter the screen" & what I was doing there... It was like having gone thru some sort of time/space hole. All I can think of is "another dimension" or a "parallel world". No words really. Quote:

Thanks - yeah, I found that dream amazing, too. I wish I could make some drawings from that. I had a dream once where I was also entering other worlds, but I had to die to get there and was not really the same person there, but it was not like being reborn, just that I looked different. And there was some sort of seasoned wanderer or guide I was following. I rarely have books in dreams - Usually it is all more visual. Barely textual or audible.
Cool one about that manuscript though that turned into reality

One of the things that saddens me is I have only had one Avatar related dream, and a pretty ****ty one to boot.
That I had been cast in a minor role in an The Asylum rip-off of Avatar.

Aw, Crikett thats a bit sad (also a bit funny maybe). But I also had not really any Avatar related dreams to speak of. One in which I was a scientist in the development of the Avatar program (Earth was blown up at the end and we had to flee towards Pandora) and one in which I was on some planet where there was some black market arms trading with the Pandora helicopters and equipment and I was about to prevent that. But I never saw a NA'Vi or a living walking Avatar in a dream

now you don't need that mask anymore, do you! It's interesting how your dreams progress: you used to be shot all the time, but then a moment came that you didn't get shot anymore - and that was it, you stay alive & kicking till the end. Now you got to be an Avatar - so I imagine no way back from then on, I mean you won't be a skyperson Without an Avatar anymore in your dreams? It's really interesting... like, once you reach a certain stage - you don't go back from it. Hm.. ![]() My dreams are usually random.

Actually, I'm only a human sized avatar in Seattle, never a real one on Pandora still, but I don't mind

^^funny thing...^I saw myself in an, erm, meditation under the Tree of Souls yesterday. It was a powerful thing, I won't retell all (not at this moment) - but I was a very curious creature: of human size & colour, but with Na'vi ears, queue & tail! I looked a bit... elf-ish. I was wearing something pink, or maybe the shining colours of the Tree of Souls were reflecting on my face & body... I must be mutating

I was dreaming of an Escape from my hamburger overlords and their Samari Big Macs. Had to use a kite and a lockpick to get to safety.

Sweet Dreams thread, you have fallen into the recesses of General Discussion! I will save you!
I've had no shortage of vivid dreams, but they've vaguely followed the same parameters as the ones I've outlined here before (Meetup Pandora dreams, in some form or another). Last night was no rehashing of past material, however. The first dream was very long. I was a character who looked like myself, but was very apparently not me. I was working with the RDA at the same time the plot of Avatar was going on. I, similarly to Jake, was there through no real talent of my own. Someone with a genome not identical, but similar to mine (my older sister) had an Avatar. She didn't die, but decided she no longer wanted the job, thinking she'd be afraid and homesick and that it was not worth it (of course, this breach of the contract didn't come without repercussions). I asked to take her place, but was at first refused, understandably, since any link would probably be a cluster****. Then, some sort of arrangement was made in which I'd go whether or not a link was successful. I was going to be paid about half as much as what my sister would've, but I didn't care at all, though I wasn't caught up with the idea of visiting an alien world, and I didn't have any strong personal feelings about Pandora or even know much about it. I wasn't acting as myself, but it also wasn't all as passive as watching someone else do things through first person. It felt like I was this individual. I'm going to continue this at another time, since it's a little late for me and the dream does go on and on. |

If it's that the plot follows Avatar's, you'd be mostly wrong.
I get there, get acquainted with my contemporaries, and they're nice enough. I work in a storage facility driving some kind of fork lift thing for a long time, not sure how long as the timescale in dreams is always a little wacky. Then, I finally get the call to try out my sister's avatar. She must not have looked like me, since the avatar really looked nothing like me. All those preliminary exercises Jake so easily and forcefully breezed through took me hours. Every minute I was in the avatar was agonizing, like physical therapy, and this went on for another long expanse of time. The best comparison I can make is that it was like my whole body was zipped up in some kind of loose puppet, and I was expected to function as well or even better in it than I did normally. One day, I was given a short and relatively easy task of the same nature as my other jobs (tedious repetitive manual labor type jobs). All I had to do was go to Grace's abandoned school and collect all the books and things that were left behind. General RDA wanted to tear it down, but the science people wanted to retrieve the items that had been left behind. I felt pretty good in my avatar compared to how it had been before, so I wasn't really worried about it. If anything, I was more than glad to get away from the storage facility. Damn, I didn't realize how long this dream really was until I tried to write it out. It's not finished yet, so I'll have to come back to it again.

yah, go on, get us some sequels! I like these story-like dreams, with a plot, a content, & some surprises along the way. It's very funny how your avatar seemed clumsy in the beginning & I guess it's pretty realistic actually. Jake got up & started running for the sake of the movie, but usually when someone wakes up from a, say, coma, one wouldn't be able to dance flamenco (or the Hunting Dance) straightaway. A body needs time & should be respected.
So yah, tell us what your trip to the school was like?
