Wow, 48hrs later and I’m only just starting to come to terms with this awful news and that regretfully it was me who saw it first and posted it here. At the time, I seemed to have perceived this in a much more negative light than others here as is evident in the generally philosophical response to the announcement.

I see the common opinion is ‘more time = better movie’ and even though I trust JC implicitly, the subject is highly debatable, as George Lucas quite aptly demonstrated. But I sure hope you’re right. I sincerely, positively do.

I’m afraid to admit that I’ve been moping around for a day and a half and someone even ordered me to ‘lighten up’ today! Waste of time attempting discussing this with a non Avatar fan, after all, it’s ‘just a movie’, right?

The fact that we all still have this wonderful community forum to take comfort from, eases the pain and has quite possibly prevented me from descending into the abyss.

Having finally accepted the situation, I’m hoping that some of the positive influence in this thread will meander in my general direction and that I can look forward, with the rest of you, to the eagerly anticipated sequel. Whenever that may be.
Please Jim, pleeeeeease!

So, an end to counting-down-the-days for me, Avatar isn’t about short-termism any more, no, Avatar is for LIFE!

Well, it could have been worse. Take me. I got told by the BT internet engineer who was installing 'infinity'! On seeing all my Avatar poster and stuff he asked me if I new when the next one was going to come out...I kinda pleaded ignorance, just in case he said something different to my original 2014 knowledge - and he did 2016!! Having picked my jaw off the floor we had a chat about it. Turns out he's a fan of the film as well as general film fan, but not of JC!

Hell yeah! Avatar is for LIFE. It had such an unexpected profound affect on sooooo many of us that this is the life changer.

I would say for me (since Avatar) life has been about discovery of myself and the trying to create as agood a life as I can to compliment that knowledge and share it with others...sort of thing! Still a long way to go though, but I've enjoyed the adventure so far.

I've worked hard for this community, I've sacrificed a lot, at times it's caused me untold amounts of stress, but also happiness, and without it, I can honestly say that I would not be around today, while I'm so glad that anyone else gets the same from it that I do.

Missed the article below first time round.

It points to a possible misunderstanding regarding John Landau's bombshell last week, which resulted in everyone accepting the worst.

As an official explanation has yet to be given regarding the reasons behind the delay and that Landau has since failed to confirm his release dates, maybe this was the plan all along and he was being mischievously vague in order to guage the worldwide reaction and reignite the interest from some quarters in the process.

Probably just me clutching at straws.
Oh well.


'So there are reports today that Jon Landau has announced that the release date for Avatar 2 is going to be 2016 rather than the previously-announced 2014 date with by a third instalment in 2015. The thing is, when we asked him just the other day, he denied that delay.
At the event we attended, Landau made an offhand remark about Avatar 2 being "four years out" - so we followed up to check, since that's not in line with the previously announced plans. Would it be four more years, and therefore 2016? Or the dates we'd heard before? He replied, "It's in that window, '14, '15."
Now this isn't to say that the second film won't be more like 2015 than 2014, given that - as far as we know - there's no completed script yet for performance-capture to begin, James Cameron's currently working on other things (including the Titanic 3D release in April) and the films are hugely effects-heavy which will necessitate enormous amounts of digital production work. One might reasonably speculate that Landau, like many of us, is still thinking of 2011 when he thinks of the date, and is currently envisaging a 2015 release date for the second film, something that would explain both his first remark and his clarification.

But to say that Landau is now talking about a 2016 release for the second film is simply not warranted at the moment, so let's just bear that in mind, eh? It may still happen - but that's not what he's saying at this stage.'
