But I just wanted to focus on the rational/biological side of it a bit more.

It makes sense, they keep their population stable. There are humans who do this too, just not enough of them...

There's no reason either has to be one or the other. Mo'at is female, but it may well be a male tsahik and/or female olo'eyktan at a different time in history and in other clans.

(Na'vi mate for live -> are monogamous but practise physical sex with different Na'vi than the one they're "bonded to", wth ^^)

There are some humans that practice varying forms of such arrangements too - I'm not sure how I feel about it really, but it's people's right to do what works for them

Their sexuality seems relatively human-like, but there are some higher animals on Earth who also exhibit the same behaviours (dolphins and some primates), even sex for pleasure rather than reproduction, so it seems relatively common in beings with sufficient intelligence.

Though I really wonder what Na'vi genetalia might look like (biological/anatomical interest, of course No, honestly, just because of that). If you watch the movie you might notice that the spot where human males have got their "wiener" the Na'vi appear to be kind of "flat". (At least Jakes Avatar)
Which makes me ask ... the question just mentioned... (don't wanna tell my detailed thoughts/assumptions on that because I don't know if such concent would be welcome here, due to forum rules [kids inside the forum, no NSFW-stuff] etc.)

Tsaheylu-like exchange of information, perhaps, although I'd say tsaheylu is fairly well defined by the physical act being a part of it. It is very true though, people can come to the same level, it just takes much longer, while the Na'vi have a biological shortcut to it that allows it much more quickly.

Of course, I totally agree. My "wth" was not meant as a "wth, how can they blargh and stuff", but more as a "wth, interesting that JC and crew have had thought this far regarding background-info for the Na'vi".

Yeah, that's kind of what I have thought of. I assume that it might be similar to the anatomy of cats (exept for the spikes, and yet the Na'vi were designed to be kind of cat-ish...) or dogs for example.

I know that some people are blessed with a relationship/experiences (you know what I mean, my English is crappy today, sorry) like that, but I honestly doubt that they could ever reach the same level as Na'vi are able to reach;

implements (to me, at least), that Na'vi people can directly feel or sense what their partner senses.
Humans can do that too, of course, but not in that direct neural kind of way, because they simply cannot connect their neural systems to each other. Maybe some day but not yet.

Yeah, I know/that's what I've interpreted But I think that humans can't reach even this compared to the Na'vi, because I imagine the sensual/psychological/emotional/mental connection to their own partner is just on a level (after they have "mated for life") which humans are never able to reach.
I mean, don't wanna bore you with that, but me and my boyfriend, for example. We know each other for 9 years now and are "partners" for like 7 years now. He is really that which others would call "my soulmate". And I can imagine that this (what we have) can go/grow even further. But I will never know what it feels like to feel/sense what he feels/senses, because I can't connect this directly to him, I will never be able to "slip into his skin". I just can imagine and assume what that would feel like, regardless to how connected we are to each other in all other ways imaginable.

Well, on the other hand, I don't know how I will feel/think about this topic in 20, 40, 60 years, so I just can tell from the point of view I have now.

It can grow in time. Tee, (Ateyo te Syaksyuk), and I have been together for 19 years. We finish each others sentences, if one of us is in a different part of the house, and hurts themselves, the other immediately "feels it", and goes to where the other is, and asks, "are you alright?". We can tell if the other has a headache coming on, we can sense it. It is as if each of us is half of a single entity.
You are right, it was not instantainious, but it steadily grew from the moment that we first met. It CAN happen with Humans.

So much of this is speculation, but thanks Eana for bringing up that article and highlighting some facts. Whether or not such a bond is possible for humans, the na'vi have it instantly and without much effort (comparatively).

Nice find there never thought that nearly forgotten site would be updated. I find alot of hte new facts intresting and informative.

As I obsurved from the first time I watched the film, sex is sacred to the Na'vi culture. With the mating practive to seel the relationship between partner, love is a very strong element in the na'vi culture and that shapes a big part of Na'vi sexuality.

The post that said that sexual activity outside the bonded pair is not uncommon was informative to me as well. That means that the na'vi have more freedom in their disires but their culture creates some standards for themseleves basicly.

The way I see it, sex is basicly a form of connection to eachother and to their spirtuality as well. In our society, most people want to go to bed with someone they don't know to have a very quick orgy for the day. With the na'vi, as with many anceint cultures, sex is used to connect to the body and spirt of the inviduals and is practiced in a very sacred mannor amougst eachother.

I mean, can you see the difference when you compair Jake and Neytiri's love scene to dumb sex scenes from some other movies? You can deffinatly tell even withother the tsuelu that connection to the partner's sprit was in play with the practices.

Reminds me of Swedish Sci Fi writer Bertil Maartenssons novel Virgin planet where the human, male protagonist have a hot relation with a female cat from the tropical Pandora like planet Catworld. In the prequel The golden Leap it goes even more advanced since one cat male, called Kairru has a relation with both a human woman, Jenny, and the female cat Auirr. Jenny is also together with the human male Michael who in his turn has a relation with Auirr.

From the Na'Vi wiki , It is known the Eywa has a say in mating and will make it apperent if the couple should not be together during tsyheylu ,Na'vi mate for life , I would assume Na"vi allways tsyheylu when they mate, from what I have read it may be imposable for them to mate without doing so given there neural physiology my require it , Only James Cameron realy knows,And I wont even try guess on the other questions.
