An ebike is considered a bike, not a motorized vehicle. Most people won't recognize that it has a motor anyway. Legality depends on your country/state. My setup would definitely not be legal in the U.K., for example. Most people don't care though. Just don't get blatant or obnoxious with it when pedestrians are around.

(serious question)

Haha, a get that question every day that I ride it. I don't know, cost of materials + 500? Where are you located?

If I didn't have a car, I'd probably be asking the same question.

I have a car, it's just the bike makes more sense (both economically and time- wise) for my daily commute. Not to mention it's a whole lot more fun than driving (and that's coming from a "car-guy").

The key to making things like this work for your lifestyle is to be close to the things you need. Like living within a reasonable distance from work and play-spots.

Very cool indeed. It is really a hit. Any plans to start to manufacturing some for sale?

No plans really. I don't think it makes a worthwhile business venture. However, I would highly recommend doing this yourself to anyone who's interested! You can't get more green than an e-bike. An electric bike is even MORE efficient than a strictly human-powered bike (our metabolism, costs of transportation of food, etc... all requires more watts per mile traveled than a modern day brushless motor).
