I saw Sucker Punch last night and the movie totally blew me away, in a good sense.
This is the first time since Avatar that a movie has had a big impact on me. However, there are a lot of haters and it received plenty of negative reviews. But I loved it. |

Sucker Punch to me is something that would have been a lot better in a different format. I didn't like it, but if it was a series of serials without an overarching plot, I'd probably love it.

In my case, that doesn't always work. There must be a context to warrior babes being effective and interesting.
For me it works in Avatar. And for me it also works in Sucker Punch. To be honest, if it was just St.Ninans shooting stuff, I probably would have forgotten it quite quickly. But for me at least, there was quite a lot of depth. In some ways it is like Avatar, It is about someone who goes into a different reality to find themselves. And like Avatar, you either get it or you don't. And I don't mean that in a derogatory way. Some people like stuff, and others don't. It's just the way the world is. The biggest example for me is Aplocalypse Now. This is apparently a classic. But for me it is one of the most boring movies ever made. I hate it. However, I am sure there is lots of interesting analysis that i am missing. But i am not interested because everything about the movie (except for the helicopter attack scene) is so so dull. I haven't seen Sucker Punch. I heard some crappy things about it, but I guess it's worth a watch and I'll probably put it on my list

Quote:
It is mainly because there are a lot of elements and ideas in the movie that appeal to me personally. But I also think that people will only appreciate it if you can follow and accept shifts in reality. (Which to some extent is what happens in Avatar). Also, this movie is very dark in nature and explores disturbing themes. It is not all beauty and wonder like Avatar. However, the message is actually quite optimistic. Also, if you are the sort of person who finds it distasteful or otherwise unappealing to see attractive females fighting in relatively revealing and erotic clothing, you will definately not like it. Although I do find it strange that the people who don't like watching scantily clad women fighting in over-the top action scenes are the same people who like '300' which is .....er......scantily clad men fighting in over the top fantasy action scenes. I have read both positive and negative reviews and both are very passionate just like in the case of Avatar. But I think i the case of Sucker Punch, many people made up their minds without watching it. They saw the cover, read the reviews and just assumed it would not appeal to them. Of course, there is every chance that anyone who watches this movie will not like it. But others may be surprised like me. I regret I didn't watch it sooner. I think it's worth renting. If you hate, you need never touch it again. Last edited by neytirifanboy; 02-11-2012 at 03:39 PM. |
