I'm doing some random CAD just for fun. I figure I'd post it here since if I don't finish it I won't be judged (unlike Scifi-Meshes where I have about 5 unfinished projects).

Thus, the Dark Heart of the Republic.

About the name: This ship would carry all of the illegal, immoral and unethical (but potentially useful in wartime) technology that the Republic (Star Wars like) wouldn't want to use except in the most dire circumstances.

Ignore stuff sticking through the hull (will be fixed later) or floating around (stock items).



Engines blazing!

Every type of gun (Long-Range, Heavy, Ion, Anti-Fighter). I know some of the Anti-Fighter guns turned black, I'm not sure why.

There will be many more guns (and detail) if this gets finished.

I say mostly because I was originally going to kitbash a MakeHuman human into a Na'vi but the software isn't up to it yet.

Absolute GIANT render (8000px wide)

I have no idea (but I know it's longer than my school-work would like). It's so big that it takes ~5 seconds just to select things with all the layers showing. That giant render took 2:30 on a Q6600 @ 3.2GHz backed with 8GB RAM. 32-bit app FTL.

Ship got completely re-armed due to import issues. These issues led to me importing a single instance of each gun type into 3ds max and re-doing the vessel's loadout...

The "green" guns are one heavy turret with four quad turrets (162). The "yellow" guns are point-defense/anti-fighter with four groups of three quad guns (234 so far). The "burgundy" or "red" guns are four quad turrets with three single-barrel ion cannon turrets (172 so far).

For those keeping count at home, that's 162 heavy turrets, 1336 quad turrets, 516 ion turrets and 2808 point-defense guns. There are also 15 superheavy turrets along the centerline. From a "Star Wars" perspective, these are essentially planetary turbolasers mounted on a ship. A single planetary turbolaser (which has only one barrel) can take out an Imperial Star Destroyer in one volley--this thing has 30 barrels' worth.

There will be more burgundy and yellow batteries. Maybe more green. May the Force be with anyone trying to attack this thing, it's your only hope. Of course, anyone attacking a 36km long mountain of metal and guns probably is insane in the membrane to begin with...


I wonder if I can fit more guns on the top?
