Default idioms...can you say?

Kaltxi...
I was wondering if you could use na'vi words to create Idioms such as
or Natkenong........
Ronsem Kawkrr/Kawkrr Ronsem...

And I suppose most would understand me if I said to a Skxawng..
Frip oe!!!
but could that work?

or Pom fi'u or Pom ma oeya Txim....
What do you think? I do apreciate your time all...
Irayo Nitxan..........

Kawkrr ronsem wouldn't work, that's too much of an idiom.

Tho the other 2:
'bite me' would be "oeti frivìp" or "frivìp oeti" (patientive case on "oe" and <iv> in "frìp" for command)
'kiss my ass' is "pivom oeyä txìmit." (<iv> for command and patientive case on "txìm")

<iv> for commands completely optional. In fact, personally, i wouldnt use subjunctive for something like kiss my ass. HrH

Frìp oet

Would work nicely as would

Pom oey txìmit

Bottom line, I understand you, but it just seems rather wrong (though hilarious ;D) to directry translate idioms. Idioms usually have a different version in different languages. Never mind may exist in na'vi at some point but it will most likely not be kawkrr ronsem.

I still think calling a grown person baby is weird. (what a weird idiomatic "petname")

I don't believe calling someone prrnen would be good or nearly the same as like a "hey baby "

I'm not sure what the typical Na'vi tutan would call his tute and vice versa. good question. to which there is not yet an answer.

I've heard it took the creators almost a year to create this language!
This is really not the easiest job!
So now we can even use it in our everyday speech and even learn it! Very useful!

Well, this is kinda offtopic, but so what...

AfaIk J. Cameron has preset some words or at least the sound of some words in his script for Avatar and it was Paul Frommer who created the language over a 4 years period of time. And finishing this process of creating and refining the language is far from over.

Especially interesting to me is the fact that you can literally watch the language develop and even be a part of it (by suggesting new words - "LEP - Lexical Expansion Project").

So, if I want someone to kiss me, I'd just say "pivom oeyä tsawla txìmit", right? Or rather, that would be right for a girlfriend who's inviting someone to kiss me, like "Be my guest... kiss my big butt... there he is!"

I see. I wonder if we are able to use utf8 characters in our names...
because *"txim" should have grave accent i not regular.

Na'vi aving fangs as they do, I wouldn't invite anyone to BITE ME

How about GRAB A BITE as in eating? NIA FIRIP
(Sorry, can't install your keyboard on my OS)
Mi oeya vur, Ateyo is constantly trying to translate yumon idioms into Na'vi.
Imagine the confusion with SKELETON CREW!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In English we sometimes us My Love and My Sweet, so OEYA YAWNETU ulte OEYA KALINA ???
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even though idioms wouldn't WORK on Pandora, it is an amusing exercise for fans, though I am sure that Sempul Frommer would be doing PALM FACE right about now!
