I never have seen it in the movie house. The first time that I saw it, Tee and I were at our Air Force Veteran's house, and it had just started to roll the opening credits, not the first scenes, as we walked in. He has premium satellite TV, so there were NO commercials. It was NOT the director's cut though, but we loved it. Two days later, we had our own, Collectors Edition, DVD, that we set up to play the extra 18 minutes. We have seen it eleven times on DVD, and five times on Mo's satellite system.
That is the ONLY way to see it, large, flat screen plasma, surround sound at about 200 watts with the subwoofers turned all the way up. That is how we have seen it every time. Niri Te Last edited by Niri Te; 04-12-2012 at 05:45 AM. |

Avatar doesn't have opening credits. That's something that seemed to bother people in some of the reviews I read, but I of course totally don't mind ; WROOONG Bunkie, although what I call "Credits" in this case is where the word for the movie company comes on the screen. That is when we walked in. I realize that most people mean all the names and stuff, when they say "credits", but it's an established fact that I'm Weird, so my definition that anything other than the movie itself is a "credit" should not be a shock. You may be speaking too soon if you haven't seen it in RealD or IMAX and I hope you get to sometime.I HATE those stupid glasses, and being stone deaf in the left ear, negates any of the super duper audio wizardry, as it does absolutely NOTHING for me, as I have ZERO Sense of direction of sound, but I CAN hear the full spectrum in my good ear, why I like the subsonics. One day I will set up a set of subwoofers IN the recliner, so that I can FEEL the subsonics in my thighs and spine. I have seen two movies, (both 2D), in the IMAX theater in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, and I get the same effect sitting in the center of the first row in a normal theater. That isn't really the definition of credits as most people call it. I'd say that's a splash screen

Txim_asawl, I am with you on this one: I would not watch Avatar on TV, either - precisely because of all the ads that, it seems, are Meant to come up in the most crucial & emotionally charged moments!
I shall bless IMAX with my presence for Avatar 2 (3, 4, 5... 10) - meanwhile, I have my DVD, & watching Avatar is such a deeply personal, almost sacred, experience, that I prefer to watch it alone, & shut out everything (no lights, no phones, no nothing & don't knock on my door cos I am on a different planet! ). And dive in & then just surf it.

I am TRULY sorry for your hearing loss ma ahoragi, I am thankful that I have the one ear. I lot the hearing in my left ear one of the times that I was wounded in the Army.
I am glad that the sub woofers help your experience of enjoying the movie. I have a 1990 YJ with a Bikini sunscreen, and no doors, it is legal to drive it on the street without the doors on, a 1995 YJ with the roll up window doors and the fiberglass full top, and a 1987 XJ with the 4.0 liter six that I put the 258 crank into, stroking it out to 4.5 liters. It has the AW-4 automatic, while the two YJ's have the AX-5 transmissions in them. All the Jeeps have Dick Cepek lift kits under them, and 31-10.50X15 mud tread tires on them. What kind of jeep do you have? Niri Te |
