Default Planetary Resources:

Mystery company backed by James Cameron and Google executives may be an asteroid mining project | The Verge

So uhm yeah we won't know more till the 24th but it seems Cameron may be helping to finance an asteroid mining company of some sort.

What was that about fiction predicting the future again? Though I feel they could have chosen a better name, perhaps the Resources Development Administration?

Though now that I look at it the logos are scarily similar

Sounds crazy. I hope it's true though

I logged in to start a thread about this... ninja'd.

I think asteroid mining is a great idea. It causes no pollution on earth, and there's nothing to hurt on lifeless asteroids. The logo and name are indeed similar, but everything will be fine as long as PR doesn't start landing on inhabited planets.

Interesting. If it's real, I wonder what exactly they plan on using to get out there, though? Nobody, national or private, has something capable of going to the asteroid belt, and returning such a massive payload as a load of minerals (or even a useful quantity of gases). Unless they plan on taking advantage of NEO or something...

On a side note, I just now realized that the RDA logo looks like a particle of alpha decay.

Maybe not now, or the next couple of centuries, but eventually we will have to look for resources outside of earth. Getting a head start really isn't that bad of an idea...

They've put out a press release. Have a look here.

Also, I think the title should be changed. It kinda downplays the fact that IT'S THE FUTURE!

^ How do I do that?

The title was originally "Planetary Resources: IE Cameron founds the real life RDA".

Oh, it's possible; they just don't have funding to use it.
