ANNOUNCEMENT: This thread started because a great 'eylan of mine sent me some excellent tips on how to be a txantsan cosplayer. Now he has sent me some videos preparing himself for Avatar cosplay. Since I was unable to post the videos here, I have posted them on my You Tube page and here is the link.

Fiyerwall - YouTube

The videos are labeled from 101_0009 to 101_0024 and they are in the order that they were sent to me.

Enjoy, my fellow cosplayers!

Thanks for sharing this. It was useful to see the prosthetic ear. I was concerned about the raggedness of the bottom edge. Too bad the camera slipped!

I'm getting another set of ears made. The light blue were custom made for me and came out so so. The dark blue ears are Reelmagik. They are better but too small for my ears and I had to cut the bottom out and putty the rest. I'm getting a new set of ears made with Daniel Jouet assistant who is very good at sculpting . My one hand camera skills are not good.

Irayo for posting this. I hope it helps out the clan.

TMI?????
I liked the video that Moms Ball offered on the kxetze also. It was very important to know the results of the adhesive he used. Which brings up another question: How does one construct the tewng, so that *ahem* personal items stay put? I used to wear a loincloth (tewng) at a ceremonial. A twelve inch strip of cloth as long as I am tall, so that the flaps hung fore and aft. I found that by positioning the belt, low over my hips, it reduced unsightly bagginess in the crotch. I lot of Native American Dancers wear trunks to hold their loincloths in place, but that leaves the trunks visible at the sides. I guess that a teeny bikini could hold it in place, and be covered by the hip belt. I was considering using two straps, attached above the tail, separated around the *personal items* and snugging up in front where they dangle in front of the wearer. It seems that is represented in Jakes Tewng, anyways.
My guess is also, that a long flap would get caught in branches when flying from tree to tree.
In the Tarzan TV show, Ron Eli wore a breechcloth that covered the hips on each side by a criss cross method, like baby nappies but at the hips. (And no diaper pins!)
Aprons or loincloths? How have you each resolved the matter?
Any horror stories about blue painted prints on the toilet seat,or a kxetse getting caught in a folding chair? oh oh, here come's Mo'at with her wooden spoon! I think Ateyo's is assking TMI!

A blue G-string behind the loincloth. It keeps your privates cover (and blue) while letting your loincloth fly free.

a blue tiny bikini for me, & I prefer a hipwrap + a bead belt to tewng. I got a scarf that looks like it's weaved of dry grass or something - that would also keep the kxetse in place. Or so I hope - I'll need to try it.

I guess it's a matter of comfort & taste, too - & tastes differ.

MOMS I guess that is an "apron" approach, OK.
I like your idea on the video of using velcro on the belt that the kxetse is attached to.
For an Avatar costume, velcro on the back waistband would be a boon, for quickness of "escape". uhoh. Here comes that wooden spoon again.

Thank you for sharing all that info. I have watched it once again.
I had missed your admonition against eating during the day of your costume experience.
That would solve lots of problems! Has anyone made an avatar costume with the tail attached to the clothing?

Actually, yes. I'm in the process of constructing a tail and attaching it to a pair of leggings. I'm trying to replicate the 'chaps' that Neytiri wears when flying on her ikran. I'm sewing the tail to the back of the leggings and then making a seperate belt with a loincloth.
