The german director Werner Herzog has made a 3D documentary about the paleolithic paintings in the Chauvet cave in France. Here one can see the stunning artistic legacy of a long lost culture.

It is fascinanting; these cave paintings were made by people that in some respects lived like the Na´vi.

I saw it a while ago. Clearly fascinating. The depth of the cave, the relations between the different paintings and the way the paintings followed the curvature of the cave walls really was accentuated and made visible by the 3D technique. These paintings are 32 000 years old and really masterly crafted.
