You have exceptional talent, fireox. You ever think of sending JC a résumé?

Amazing work as always.

Hey all,

been far too long since the last update. I did some other stuff, played Diablo3 etc
Liked the break but i was also really looking forward to get started again.
Animated a short quick shot this week. As with all the clips sofar the animation isnt finished so its still rough here and there.
When all the scenes are done i do the more detailed animation work, its only basic keyframes now so its easy to adjust.
(adjustments for sound, timing, camera work and the earlier and next shot for example).
This clip starts with Neytiri starting to run and the dynamics (hair, cloth, etc) had some trouble catching up with the sudden increase in speed.
Had to learn some new tricks for that and increase calculations by alot. It still needs some work but for now im pretty happy with it.
The added calculations for the dynamics really killed the speed in rendering tho, took 20 hours to do this short 4 second clip.
Normally i dont animate the eyes, fingers, tail, etc at this point but to make the rendered clip look a little better i animated it a little.

To give you an idea where i am sofar, i have about 1 min 30 sec of animation in total now, maybe a little more.
Anyway its nice to see something rendered (first time for me aswell), do some fixes and on to the next shot

Very impressive.

The hair looks good, but the tails whips behind like it's just following and not being actively controlled by her for balance when she jumps.

Well i take it as a big compliment, and it would be great if i could get a job in the 3d business with the help of this when its done.
I dont think i am even close to the quality JC's people deliver tho but one can dream

@mikkowilson
Yes the tail movement is pretty bad atm. Normally i dont animate the tail, fingers etc at this point but the render would look pretty bad without so i animated it a little quickly. Was harder then i thought tho. And thx for the suggestion of actually using the tail to compensate for her movement, ill keep that in my mind!
Have to look into it how it works tho, watch some cat slow motions i guess.

I know with half your skills, you could have some type of 3D job. You can go far, seriously. If I had your talent, I'd have a real job here already no problem.

Good to have you back Fierox Nice litle animation you have there, i think it looks realy good. But i have a litle question for you: Are the ground going to look that smooth? Or is it a vip? Maybe a rougher ground would look more natural? And i'm realy looking forward to se your work when Neytiri and Jake interacts with each other. But overall very, very nice job sow far

Thx Moco Loco

Sofar i already have animated quite alot of interaction between Neytiri and Jake. I think its very important how they interact and how it will feel to the viewer, it will make or brake this animation. Really want to avoid that "cold" feel i see in most videogame interactions between two characters. Its quite a challenge but its also something i really enjoy working on
Oh and no the background isnt finished at all, just want to focus on animating now and get some good progress..

I think you are, considering the team sizes - one person doing that translates to a lot of quality when a single person might work on a few individual textures or part of a model in a production environment
