Default What geeky (tech) things do you do?

I've noticed that a lot of the people who hang in the IRC channel are pretty tech oriented. Programmers, web developers, sys admins, lots of linux users... etc.

Is that the case here on the forums? What techie things do you do?

I'm a self taught programmer, I use Ubuntu, and I like to make lots of electronic gadgets

I'm a programmer, and I also do stuff with networks & Linux. Most recently, I enabled my home network for IPv6 courtesy of tunnelbroker.net. I also moved my domains & personal email off shared hosting, over to a Linode VPS, and been so far very happy with it.

Software developer by day, electrical engineer and high energy physics nut by night. Friends and I are presently working on our second attempt at a near-space balloon launch, and I do own a telescope, so I guess I'm an astronomy geek too.

I am using and operating a gas chromatography isotope ratio mass spectrometer at work (hehe, beat that ), but at home, what I do tech-wise is rather small stuff. Keeping my 10 year old laptop running on Ubuntu, trying to keep the media-PC in the living room running so we can watch movies on the video beamer - I am happy to not have too much tech stuff to do at home after a day full of high powered magnets and administrating PCs and printers at work (which was not part of my job description). So at home, it is more low tech stuff - woodworking, building stuff for the beehives, keeping bees, doing some gardening, constructing things like a carport or a shed or a tabletop garden bed or some furniture. More "maker" stuff than "tech-geek" stuff.

"Humans are storytellers. These stories then can become our reality. Only when we loose ourselves in the stories they have the power to control us. Our culture got lost in the wrong story, a story of death and defeat, of opression and control, of separation and competition. We need a new story!"

The closest I come is replacing the save batteries in my gameboy cartridges and taking the cover off my laptop to see if I could make the internal webcam and microphone work again (and no, I could not ).

Laptops are a pain to fix when it comes to hardware :/

I get annoyed when I'm good at building, managing or resurrecting servers and doing network stuff, but end up writing more PHP code because there's not enough to do...
