So I'm watching avatar again right now

Felt a pang of nostalgia and then an immediate wave of sadness, I miss when this community used to be bursting with life. It's sad, but hopefully when the next movie comes out it will pick up.

I miss you guys, Just wanted to stop in say hi to a community of friends from long ago.

Well, after the fantasy of the movie, most of the people have to get back to their work -a -day livess. For some though, they took the message of the movie, and APPLY it to the world around them, promoting ecological ideals to those that they interact with. A good number of them are taking part in the pressure being placed on the Brazilian. Government over the Belo Monte Dam.

I'm with Stanley. I miss the first few weeks, the camaraderie and the... well... hope. So many people filled with such desire, passion and hope for something. Something that seemed like it would, for a time, fundamentally change the world. After all, how could the world be the same after such a profound and beautiful (as well as occasionally heartbreaking) experience as this?

And then we found that although we were changed, the greater fight did indeed lie before us. The fight to do, as Niri Te says, with taking the changes Pandora made to us, and applying them to the world around us and the people in it.

Heaven only knows that I don't spend enough time here (although spending 4 months without my own PC hasn't helped). I hope that changes soon though.

Agreed... I'm afraid if I see Avatar again though ill go through extreme PAD like I did before... but it was like the time and setting I was in... just seemed to fit... be the perfect time for it to be in my life and opened my eyes. If I did see it again I'd probably rent a cabin in the middle of nowhere for a week with all my old avatar forum conversations, news articles, and stories of others experiences and such.

We're still here. The main reason is just that everything becomes said - while some people might like to complain and go on about themselves claiming that others don't really apply themselves to Avatar in some way that gives them some sense of superiority, I think the truth is that there's no real news to talk about, and we've mostly run out of topics around Avatar itself - many things have just been said, nobody wants to repeat themselves, and threads become simultaneously about more special and more offtopic things.

I watched Avatar not that long ago; it was as powerful as ever. Also only the second time ever watching it with other people, and a very special viewing for that

^ Well said. I really do believe that when Avatar 2 gets closer to release and news and trailers start appearing on the net and tv that old members and new ones will flock here again and things can be like the old days. But with that said, I don't think that we are doing too bad right now, Avatar came out in late 2009 and this forum is still alive with members posting and chatting with each other.

So long as the "powers that be" manage Avatar so that it grows into something large (like Star Wars, Alien/Predator, or Halo), this place will probably grow too.

Now that's a thought. Hopefully even if the numbers grow this place will still have that community feel to it.

You just need to look at any well known franchise, particularly scifi. The communities last long after the franchise itself isn't making anything new (e.g. Star Trek, which has been dead in terms of canon works for the last 8 years), they just shift in context a bit. Avatar has the potential to be just as big - it's already starting to appear in general references (e.g. in TV programmes) in the same way they might reference other, older ones.
