Rather interesting idea.

Both with Chinese human characters, stops avatar feeling so american and allows some development of the earth. The idea of Chinese na'vi actor is also interesting, it would make the race more varied.

Since when are the Na'vi a "varied race"?
And why does it matter if there are Asians or not in Avatar?

Logically, the Na'vi would be as varied and diverse as humans are, assuming they're living in equally diverse environments.

Equally logically, however, they should not transparently correspond to human cultures.

I'm more worried about censorship as a result, especially since China banned Avatar, even if they did later try to cash in with the whole mountain renaming. Remember, in china, it's a case of "We now own your home, we're building a dam and flooding this area, so go away" and they didn't want people getting inspired by Avatar...

They didn't actually ban avatar, they simply removed it from theaters, then after people protested they allowed it to continue showing. In china there are limits to the number of foreign film that cinemas and for how long they are allowed to show them for.

I believe it is partly a form of censorship, keep out those poltical movies out and to stimulate the domestic film industry (providing they don't do poltical movies). I suspect that the rush by hollywood to set up productions in china is to find a loophole in the film limit.

I'm pretty sure there's no danger of censorship. Like Clarke somewhat said, that would not fly with JC, he'd much sooner pick up and move somewhere else

I am fine with having a more diverse ethinc presence in the movie, that part is great, I am worried though about the Chinese participation because of thier political history/the history they have with treating thier own people, I still read about things that happen in China that are sad, very sad only.

I don't understand it either. Use who's good for the part, not quotas. I wonder how many people knew about Eytukan/Mo'at/Tsu'tey's actors? Probably not that many outside of here/LN/AF. If someone is a particular race, fine, doesn't matter.

I think it's a good example of white guilt, imho.
