I see there isnt a thread yet for the new movie Life Of Pi...
Before my viewing of it I havent heard much about it... the first time I saw anything for it was when it gave a five minute scene of it before showing Prometheus... which while it was going on me and my lover and friend had no idea what was happening xD. Then I kept hearing people saying that the 3-D was fantastic, had amazing special effects, and even heard one reviewer compare it to Avatar... which of course made me stop. Really? We'll see... ![]() So me and lover saw it Sunday night in Real-D 3-D (wanted to see it in IMAX but Skyfall was there). The story line was good... it was full of adventure, comedy, and tragedy. the special effects were amazing... the tiger was very realistic where CGI was used for it, the scenery and certain camera angles were breathtaking, and the enviroment and atmosphere Pi was in was incredible. The 3-D was also very good, wasnt overdone like in movies where they purposefully throw something at the viewer as the cheesy 3-D effect... everything done here was great. Sound was awesome. And the actor who played Pi was fantastic. Some might not like/get annoyed at all the religious discussion throughout the movie, but I didnt mind it. Honestly to me it didnt even seem like 127 minutes. I thought it was a really good movie, definitely worth the money... but for us here it doesnt compare to Avatar sorry ![]() Thoughts? Anyone seen this movie yet? Want to see? Not want to? |

I kinda want to see it...I don't like to spend much money at movie theaters often but I have been curious about this. I have seen lots of ads with critics' quotes proclaiming it to be "the next Avatar" so naturally that's made me want to go see for myself why they say that. I did read the book once, but that was years ago and for a school assignment no less!

Meh.
It sounds dumb. Especially now that you mentioned religion is in it. Edit Okay, now that I read the plot of the book on Wikipedia, I can confirm that it is dumb. Some kid is stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, and for some reason, this is an inspiring religious event, because the kid, like the author, is a empty-headed moron who can't think for himself, and is too afraid to come to terms with the fact that there is no purpose to life, and that the world wasn't shat out by some magical fatass floating through space. Avatar is about why it is important not to ruin our planet, because we kinda need clean water and forests and things, or we would die, and mast multitudes of other lifeforms would suffer immeasurably first. It's also about love, and about the importance of preserving ancient cultures, even if they seem primitive. The difference is pretty damn plain from this angle.

I saw this movie was on HBO the other day. It was close to the end when I turned it on and I saw the guy and the tiger land on an island with meerkats. The guy walks through a bigger herd of CGI meerkats than I've ever seen or heard of. Hundreds or thousands of meerkats.
None flee. The tiger casually strolls up and eats a meerkat. None flee. By the time he starts explaining the carnivorous island, I tuned out. This was me watching this sequence. |
