I think 2 things will lift it up again. One is more really great 3D movies that make really good use of the effect (the time for impressing the audience with things flying at them is over). Avater 2 and 3 maybe?
- the other will probably be 3D without glasses, though that changes only little in respect to making these films. I agree that the part of making a few bucks more by making a film in 3D are probably coming to an end. Eventually people will probably not pay that much more for a 3D movie than for a regular movie, when the novelty of it is gone. For filmmakers and cinemas this may seem like "its over" because they cannot easily make additional money from it, which mewans that probably those cinemas who did not yet get it installed may think twice if they want to invest the money - though maybe eventually they have to, just to stay in business as people will just take it for granted.
