Dat crawfish
It's May and I'm still wearing a coat, which I find a little disappointing.

oh yes, it's this cute one! I liked this bug
was it (in Sol Duc) an adult or a baby? Here in Catalonia / Spain* it's finally getting summery, although for the last week it was about 8-10ºC in the morning going up to 20-23ºC in the afternoon. So i would leave the house in a jacket & end up in a T-shirt by midday. But now it is getting warmer, which is nice. *Catalonia Is Not Spain! - this is what graffiti says. I am sure they're right ![]() Yeah MOMS has a jungle close, & lots of Pandora-like sounds where he lives! but one should watch one's step of course there are LOADS of bugs there, of all kinds! But he is on the forum once in a blue moon... is your moon blue now, MOMS?

Speaking of weather, it has been far too dry here.
Normally, May still has plenty of soggy, wet weather, but the high for the last two weeks exceeded 80 deg. F multiple times, with no precipitation whatsoever. This impacts me directly, because I'm raising some salamander and newt larvae, and I was catching aquatic invertebrates for them to eat from a vernal pool near my house; the pool usually sticks around until June, but it dried up two weeks ago, and I've been have to really scrounge around to find things for my larvae to eat. At this rate, I'll have to attempt to feed them store-bought things, which doesn't always work well. And, I'll bet anyone any amount of money that the unusual weather patterns that have put me in this position are the results of climate change.

18 percent humidity, 82 degrees, cooling winds at 10 to 12 MPH out of the South Southwest. Typical Far West Texas Weather for this time of year.

I am glad that that tornado in Texas didn't touch your kelu Niri! I was a bit worried about mefo
but Ateyo told me you're fine, so I am glad I just wonder who of ours (of the forum members) is in the affected area & hope they are ok, too... ![]() Raiden, do you still need rain over there in Oregon? Here, it's been raining & pouring for a good couple of weeks, it's good for the land to have a drink but this is getting a bit tiresome... I asked Eywa to send our rain to yours, hope that clouds reach safely & your pond is filled & your bugs have their breakfast, lunch & dinner! About unusual weather patterns - is this hot & dry spring a one-off case, or is there a tendency? how many springs of these characteristics in the last 10 years? Since I am in Spain (8 years) we had two cold & wet springs (long sleeves till June ) but also 3 Very hot & dry ones; the water reservoires were down to 20% of their capacity. Then it started raining like there was no tomorrow & they went back to 90-95% in 2-3 weeks. Old people say 'these things happen' - but I guess, climatic change is not to be denied - but the planet has its say in the matter, too, & goes thru its cycles. So, I am just wondering about the 'samples' & statistics.

Ma Apache,
No, because of where we are, the system that caused those tornadoes came through here a little over a day earlier as 30MPH winds, with gusts to 45MPH. It can't get the energy to build super cells though, when our humidity is less than 10 percent. on the day in question, it was six percent. Ateyo and I SCOURED weather data for the last 30 years before we narrowed the possible candidates to three. We then looked at things like personal freedoms afforded by the States and Counties to their Citizens, and the hands down winner, for remoteness, sparse population, local Governments that realize that private land owners have enough common sense to be able to build their own home WITHOUT Government intervention, and the citizenry's Second Amendment RIGHTS to be able to own a firearm, was Hudspeth County, Texas. We have lived here in the Peace and Quiet of this County since 2005, and will both return to Eywa from here, and be buried in this soil. |

We have had rain during the last 48 hours now without any interruption...The soil is getting wet and swampy, and some basements have been flooded. Very unnormal for Kiel, Northern Germany for the month of May.

you're having unusual weather too, Dreamfields?
it seems you're not the only one here... Niri: that was a fine intel from your side a war veteran talking I see... all said, I am simply glad & thank Eywa that you're all right. Hope everyone in the affected area is ok, too - as much as possible under the circumstances my prayers.

Not a cloud in the sky, mid nineties for a temperature, with winds out of the west at 12 to 14MPH, humidity less than 10 percent. The usual late spring far west Texas weather.

Good thread!
The weather has been lovely in Finland for the past week. Sun has been shining all day and most of the night, temperatures reaching over 20 degrees C. It hasn't been windy until lately.Stupid mosquitoes are starting to wake up. >_> |
