Nice move to externalize blame. As if it would not also be in the countries and its own peoples best interest to keep a healthy environment and not sell that off in exchange for a few badly paid pipeline and refinery jobs, which is what ususally is all that is left to the people of an area that is opened up for oil extraction by corporations.
Still, the international community could have shown more support - they all talk and talk and set up plans like REDD supposedly with the goal of spending money to mitigate climate change, but of course the idea is not really to reduce oil output and leave anything in the ground but to give people a better feeling by pretending that the CO2 produced by burning all the oil is "mitigated" by planting some trees somewhere. We could not have the oil supply peak and stop econocic growth of course - that is primary for this culture
