It's just how it is. You basically have two parts of the sentence:

{oe zene} {(oel) yivom yerik-it}

txa' can only mean hard as in the opposite of soft and squishy. "work hard/try hard" is an English idiom. I'd say something more like "try passionately"

Oe zene fmivi nìftxavang.

ke always comes right before the verb. It's just one of those non-Englishy things that makes Na'vi unique.
