Indeed
Most people can probably find songs they like that they think fit into the Na'vi style (I certainly can), but it doesn't mean they at all consider them likely or suitable for a film. Actual songs in films seem to usually be rather obvious, and really don't work in most.

I'd love to see a long, languid view of a beautiful new alien landscape set to something by Biosphere or perhaps Brian Eno. I also think Bjork would be great as a Na'vi singer from a strange clan.

I'm generally against songs in films, because they rarely fit well unless it is a film by Quentin Tarantino or something, so I'd second the idea to skip songs and go with just film score.

My main wish is that there are memorable dark themes. The soundtrack of Avatar had some quite memorable ones, but most of them were positive and inspirational, but I can't recall anything of the darker ones except for the one after the fall of hometree.

As for metal motives, they would have worked pretty well if added subtly to a music theme of the human army, but I don't think they would fit the next two. Yet I'm always for more metal in films in any form even if it doesn't fit, so I hope that James Horner gets hit by unorthodox tendencies by the time he starts working on it.

Sometimes I listen to the unused and alternate versions of the Avatar soundtrack and pretend it's the soundtrack to the second one
