Moco Loco, thanks for taking the time to reply!

I'm relieved that I'm finally getting closer to producing a better Neytiri model than what I had attempted previously.

As for the detailed musculature, I'm saving that for when I get to the zbrush sculpting stage. Right now I'm just blocking out the geometry in maya in order to have a very clean base mesh to sculpt on. Of course, it is very important to me that I get the shapes as close as possible at this stage - so I'm taking my time to get this right.

After much time spent viewing reference material, and figuring out certain maya deformers, I was finally able to make her 'medicine bag' thing and some of her other artifacts. I also spent a lot of time making the braided cord that holds her loincloth in place, as well as wrapping the loincloth around her tail in the proper way. I still have a lot of shaping to do on the loincloth itself.

And I think that I finally managed to get her breasts right. It took a hell of a lot of shape tweaking to finally get the shape to match what I can see in the reference pics.

Alright! I managed to get all of the parts of her standard outfit created now.
You'll notice that I made her armguard and tailwrap since my last update.
Of course I still need to do some detail work, especially on the loincloth.
Next I'll be creating the parts for her battle outfit! I really want to see how my model will look with warpaint once I get to the texturing stage.

Thanks iron_jones!

One thing that I just researched in more detail is the scale of Neytiri's feet.
I am now convinced that I made her feet just slightly too large, about the size that Jake's feet would be if they were attached to her body. In my next update you'll see that I'll have reduced the size of her feet by about the length of her current big toe.

Tomorrow I start on her battle outfit.

Neytirislover93, thanks for the encouragement!

In this update, you'll see that I scaled Neytiri's feet down to better fit her body proportions. I also began working on the parts of her battle outfit. I started with the RDA communications collar and her chest cover. I'm still early in the process with these parts, and don't have a lot of the geometry done for them yet - but I think they are starting to take the correct shapes.

Tsutey, you're right - I'm spending time carefully modeling the many pieces that I want to see in her outfits. They say that slow and steady wins the race...
I did some additional tweaking of her feet and toes, her big toes now bend in more towards her smaller toes like in the reference material.

I also now finished making her RDA communications collar, armbands, and chest cover for her battle outfit. Next I plan to model the riding headpiece/goggles. I need to seek out more reference to see how it looks from the back side of her head.

Not so many comments lately?

Well, after a vast amount of searching for good reference images of Neytiri's visor I had to resort to grabbing screen-caps directly from the movie. I haven't found any other fan-art that provided an accurate rendition of the complete visor anywhere!

I hope the effort will be appreciated when this project is looking more finished!
Now I just need to create her RDA earpiece, riding pants, knife & sheath, and bow & arrow.

It looks like this thread is receiving views, but nobody is saying anything lately.
Do you feel that I'm doing alright with our sweety pie? Not making any big mistakes that need to be corrected?

So I'm presently blocking out the primary shapes for Neytiri's riding pants, I still need to add all of the intricate strap webbing around the edges.
Lots of fine detailed work...

Wow, you guys are a really tough crowd lately. People are checking out my progress on this project, but no words of encouragement lately.

I finally finished all of the incredible detail in Neytiri's riding pants.
Wow, if I had known what I was in for I probably would have been more hesitant to add them to my list of costume parts. What a lot of work!
I've searched all over the web and have not found one single instance of a 3d artist attempting to make these pants - I guess they didn't want to go through all of that labor without getting paid for it.

If you think I've done something great here, please feel free to comment and help me feel like I accomplished something amazing. LOL

That about does it for her battle outfit, I'm going to start working on her weapons next.

Well you're certainly coming along nice.

Interesting to see how the general shapes become actual clothes. Wish I had the skills for this kind of thing

Exoblade, thank you so much for your feedback!

The way that I create 3d objects is very similar to the way I draw, I rely on the visual relationship of one landmark compared to another. So I had to block in the larger non-strap masses of the pants to find out where they needed to be in relationship with each other. After that was done I was able to accurately position each strap.

Although I absolutely love and enjoy the work that I'm doing - I wouldn't call it a piece of cake, it takes time and dedication to get this stuff done. I really appreciate it when I receive encouragement. And I really value the times when somebody can point out any errors that I might make - so I can fix them before moving on to another stage in the process.

Any opinions on my daydream of creating a 3d model of Zoe Saldana and dressing her up in a scaled down set of Neytiri's clothes? Sometime after this model is done of course...

Yeah I was never that great at artwork in general.

I've do have a sketch book and have a good eye but I lack the drive to knuckle down and actually produce something so generally I just sketch random things.
