Quote:
Changes in populations of organisms never happen spontaneously and they always have a reason for happening. If you want to answer the question for yourself, try to think of a biome (a large area consisting of related ecosystems, such as a rainforest, savannah, desert, mountains/plateaus, scrubland, dry forest, etc.) where it would be useful as an adaptation instead of just thinking about it in terms of aesthetic appeal. Pandora is too small to have deserts, but we've basically been told it has savannahs, and those would probably be in areas away from the ocean near the equator (just like the savannahs in Africa and northern Brazil). So, you tell me; where would a pattern consisting of irregular blotches or spots be useful for an organism like the Na'vi?
