Found the magic in Avatar again

Last week, I received in the mail one of the first Oculus DK2 samples, and today i finally got around to doing something i had wanted to do forever; watch avatar through the OR. It was amazing, perfect 3D, felt like being back in IMAX. I was utterly engrossed, and fell in love with it all over again. I cant wait for a higher res version to make it look even prettier.

I can only hope that more movies in the future support things like the rift, allowing you to "Look around" the movie, it would add a vast amount of immersion.

One other thing to add about it is that since the film is in 24FPS, the judder is pretty bad. you need at least 50FPS to make it a "smooth" experience, so im hoping movies like the hobbit in 48FPS will fix that. stupid film industry.

I just did a cross-eyed view of those two photos. Amazing......until I couldn't get my eyes back to normal LOL.

This made me want to watch avatar on my 3D tv. I think I will enjoy that 2nite!

I had the fortune to develop a game for the OR some while back and it was a very interesting number of weeks.

I need to ask about how bad the screen door effect is now. I'm very interested in the oculus rift for this exact purpose, but I have that particular reservation about it.

Maybe this is the future of experiencing movies

I recently watched Jeremyjahns Review of Avatar from 2009,
And it really showed me why I feel in love with Avatar.

My advise to anyone who is maybe falling out of love with Avatar
or needs to be reminded why it's such an amazing film,
Just watch that review again!

It'll reinvigorate Your passion for the film!

the display in the DK2 is the note 3 screen which is a pentile display looks like this:

So the screen door effect is MUCH less pronounced that the DK1, but still present. without any AA, its not bad.

My home network vomited, and i cant access my bouncer anymore. plus, IRC is blocked at my work, and im not near my computer very often after work... so i drop in when i can. (which isnt very often, sadly)

One of the things I discovered when Avatar came out on Blu Ray is unless you have a really REALLY large television, it's just not the same experience watching it on in a theater. This is why I still watch Avatar in theaters

I never thought of a 30 inch tv as small until I saw Avatar on one. If the Oculus Rift can give me the theater experience without buying an overly expensive 5 foot diameter tv, I'm all for it.

I finally got to see the movie in 3D for the first time when I attended AvatarMeet 2014, and I gotta say this: it was like watching it again for the first time. It was *that* good.

^I had always been kicking myself for not seeing it in 3D for all of these years, then at the meet, we got that wonderful gift, it was SO amazing, I remember feeling the goosebumps watching it in 3D

Its as close as i can get to a theatre, since I dont have the money to rent an entire one out for myself It still pales in comparison to an IMAX viewing though.
