Default James Horner dead

It seems it's still an early story and details will surely come later, but as I look at Google News's realtime coverage, new articles appear every minute confirming that James Roy Horner has indeed died in a plane crash at the age of 61.

I wish it wasn't true. I am devastated.

James Horner: Oscar-winning Titanic composer dies in crash - BBC News

It's looking like it's confirmed now. Tragic reminder of the risks that aviators take when pursuing their passion.

He owns many planes and was an experienced pilot (both news to me).
He's survived by his wife and 2 daughters.

James Cameron: "Avatar was a very different challenge - to capture the heart and spirit of an alien culture without alienating the audience.

"By combining the sweep of a classic orchestral score with indigenous instrumentation and vocals, you came up with a unique sound that created both the epic sweep of the film and also childlike sense of wonder of experiencing that fantastic world for the first time."

Great quote. I'm having such a hard time right now fathoming the fact that the sequels will need to be scored by (an)other composer(s).

I can't quite believe he's gone, what a terrible loss.

I heard that he was actively working on composing music for the Avatar sequels, I hope that whoever does end up taking over for him will respect and be able to work off what he's already done. Still hard to imagine anyone else actually doing the music for Avatar...

A big loss for sure. But atleast he left something pretty behind in the time he had. Something we should all try to do.
Best wishes to his wife, kids, family and friends.

A musical tribute i found and an image i made.

Default James Horner died

I saw it on the news last night. It felt like someone just punched me in the stomach. I was in disbelief, greif, sad, and even tearful. It hurts to even think about it now. This is like a death to a family member.

I have listened to that soundtracks countless times. Driving. At home. At work on buds when I could. ALWAYS over and over and over when in make up and painting to be one of the clan. Everytime I listen to it I get chills and my perspective on life changes.
The movie, music, and the way I view life can not be overstated. My life changed strastically and for the better because of Avatar. I have an entire another circle of friends that would not existed before. Another layer all together.

May James go to the Tree of Souls. See the mother. And pass through the Eye of Eywa.

He will be deeply missed and leaves a huge hole in the clan.

I see you James...

^This.

This is sad, very sad only.
RIP James Horner. Irayo nitxan, tsmukan, for giving us all such incredibly beautiful music (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, The Land Before Time, and other films)! Now your musical legacy will go on in the Avatar sequels.

And Irayo, fierox, for sharing that really beautiful artwork of Jake & Neytiri with the glowing woodsprite.

Such a sad loss..
and hopefully not a big blow to the upcomming movies. James' atmospheric sensible melodies and instrumentation was outstanding, almost perfect for Avatar.
