I heartily recommend Hunters in the Dark. Broken Circle is also another good read, if you like Elites

"Filmed in Supermarionation"

basically a history of ap films and century 21, the people that made thunderbirds, fireball xl5, stingray, and captain scarlet.

watching thunderbirds and stingray as a toddler is one of my earliest memories, so the "andersonverse" is very near and dear to my heart. reading about all the stuff that went into making those shows is really fascinating, like how many times they accidentally set a puppet on fire or blew up something that wasn't supposed to blow up.

While I never saw Fireball XL5 myself, I love this description of it.

omg i love this!

speaking of the scooters, one of the camera operators for ap films recounted an incident during the filming of fireball where he was filming a sequence of steve zodiac (the main male lead) firing the gun built into the scooter's handlebars, and i guess the special effects department may have underestimated how powerful the charges were because the scooter just
disintegrated and all that was left of it were the handlebars

Surface Detail.

(Iain's not really dead, he was just retrieved by Special Circumstances.)

If you enjoy Andy Weir, I can highly recommend his short story The Egg - available in its entirety here (it's very short):
The Egg

Definitely my favorite work of his.

Yes, definitely see the film too when you can. Also very good in my opinion.
