In the beginning of the first film we fly over the forest of Pandora with Jake's voice leading us in. He says he woke up in a VA hospital with a hole blown through his life. That statement got me to thinking of a possible "surprise ending."
What if it turns out that none of it happened and Jake was simply in a coma...
No Pandora, no ikran, no forests, no Na'vi, and no Neytiri...
Just a dream...
...Jake, leaving the hospital to get back to his "life."

A similar thought has crossed my mind. That Avatar 1-3 is a dream taking place during the trip to Pandora. It's a dream, but a dream that's really Eywa in telepathic contact with Jake; explaining how things are going to go. And Avatar 4 would be a remake of the first film with the entire original cast. Except this time around Jake has a bit more expertise on how to live on Pandora, because from his perspective he's been living there for years. He would know in a general sense what needs to be done, but he'll have to figure out how to do it without losing Hometree, the tree(s) of voices, the tree of souls or any of his friends.
One major difference the second time around would be instead of Mo'at asking why Jake has come, that conversation would go more along the lines of "we've been expecting you".
Again, this is just something I've thought about from time to time.
