So I was visiting the empty forums of Avatar-Blogs when I found this thread by a Brazilian artist. He said he has composed an alternative music for the first movie. I can't watch the video atm but here's the thread on Avatar-Unforums: A new music for Avatar | Avatar Blogs and Unforums

jokes aside, the music is very good and it gives hope that the music for avatar 2 has a chance of being just as magnificent as james horners

James Horner's score for Avatar was written with the help of a ethnomusicologist ,, and basically has two layers , he talks about the Na'vi world of sound running under a orchestrated score those songs that reflect there unique cultural identity as a traditinal people , changing the music changes the whole core feel of the film,, and the place it "speaks" from ,, there certainly are musical scores that fit , but a lot of care needs to be taken or you will change the films artistic intent , I am not saying there is not a need for the reflection music artists and with death of James Horner the composer slot will need to filled.. every artist holds there own perceptions to what the films music should represent ,, one would have to be able to work with the artistic vision James Cameron set out for the films musical expression so only he can judge ones work in this case..

So I replied to the thread on Avatar-Unforums. I'll summarize my opinion: Some parts are out of context a bit and sound more space-ish, and I agree with allrock.

I know it will have a different composer, but the "new" sound, has to be organic with the original, related to it. Im sure JC will find the right person.

This is part of what I am worried about regarding the soundtrack. There's nothing wrong with that music. It's perfectly good music I would enjoy listening to. But I think most of it "doesn't fit" with Avatar.

If I could pick a composer, it would be Steven Price (Gravity, Fury) to score the sequels. Gravity showed his skills as no sound in space, meant using music to define an action scene where you didn't hear the destruction going on.
Harry Gregson-Williams of Prometheus, The Martian also would work. |

This will give people an idea of the layers that where involved in the creation of the Music for the original film Any composer for future Avatar films is "likely" going to have to work with these layers of expression "the underlying role of an ethnomusicologist" and some of what James Cameron expected for the original film.

Thank you so much everyone for your time devoted to the listening of my project and comments. I think your feedback is very important for the improvement of my work and I appreciate them.
I truly believe that what I have to offer is valuable and susceptible for improvements and I am working on them. I, by no means, want to compare my work with James Horner that is someone i admire a lot and has been serving me as great inspirations for many years. I am a composer that is being motivated by a belief that what i have can help the Avatar sequel go to its next level and please all its fans and I've been commited, probably more than what it seems, to the reseach and study of good materials that can improve my skills specifically to this project. I've been carefully reading each post. You comments are all very welcome and helpful for the improvement of my project. Leandro |
