Do You Trust Doctors?

I'd like for as many as possible to participate in this poll so to anyone who would like to play along I'd like to know on a scale between 1 and 10 how much would you say you trust medical doctors? Obviously with ten being the most. If you want you can leave an explanation.

Anyway, I answered the poll with a 10. I have absolute faith in my doctor. She has never let me down and Lord knows I have visited her enough in my life. As far as I am concerned, her diagnosis is fact.

I voted five out of ten. Thinking it over, given my experiences and my relatives experiences with doctors, that's probably too high.

I do not have faith in any doctor. They may be the experts, but experience and the experiences of my close relatives have taught me not to trust them.

I will say this without divulging too much of my medical history or family's medical history: If you hear these phrases more than once in a six month period, you may want to investigate finding a new doctor.

Simply because insurance has more to do with your own care than your doctor does. Docs can say so and so needs this the insurance can say "no" and now you pay for it full inflated price if you go ahead with it. As a result, I trust insurance VERY little and it reflects on the doctors...

However, I've seen insurance work but only for terminal stuff. My girlfriends mom had brain cancer and the surgery alone was $127,000. Covered. (docs for her surgery, $15,000) After care another $48,000. Covered. Chemo ($800 per pill, 4 pills daily for a week. $16,000 per prescription per month). Covered. Radiation therapy $88,000. Covered. Hospice care till her last breath (her entire disability check).

HOWEVER... Me. someone who rarely uses medical care I'm *REQUIRED* to buy health insurance, and my employer pays half of it. I'm out $3,068 yearly. If I don't buy the insurance as required by law, I'm taxed $1,440 a year. Its CHEAPER to get taxed than to pay the fine, its another $1,628 in my pocket per year. Oh and my insurance has gone up too.... Haven't even used it. I haven't had to use medical insurance in 7 years.

Insurance is good for my girlfriend though considering her numerous medical problems and therapy. Her appointments would cost me $120 per visit.

i don't trust doctors worth a damn, they just help you die once they get their prescriptions into you.

i will never take that flu vaccine. never!!!

i had a bunch of shots when i was in the service, but none since. no more. period!

i don't take prescription drugs, nor do i want to. no thanks.

i take some vitamins, but nothing fancy, just B12, C, D, and some ginger root. i don't put any faith in stuff from GNC, it's all chemicals and pseudo-steroids. yuck.

i don't smoke or vape, but i do drink occasionally, but not to excess.

my problem is a bad diet, and a lot of unhealthy food on the go, because of my latest rotten job. my diet sucks canal water. :/

i hate doctors, actually. they just help you die before your time. i don't want to know, tbh. when it's my time to go, it is what it is. checkout time.

The reason I don't trust doctors at all is because just in the past three years while they've tried to figure out what is going on with me they've diagnose me with so many random things. It makes me think doctors really aren't as good as everyone believes.

With me seeing multiple specialists and telling them the EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS they've diagnosed me with the following conditions.

October 2013 - December 2016

Strep
Lupus
Sinusitis
Acid Reflux
Constipation
Food Allergies
Anorexia Nervosa
HIV (it was negative)
Eosinophilic Esophagitis
General Anxiety Disorder

That's Gastrologists, Allergists, ENT Specialists, Infectious Diseases Specialists, my primary doctor and a number of hospital doctors coming in at over $100,000 in debt after I lost my heath insurance when Obamacare kicked in.

Medications they've prescribed or recommended

1. Flovent HFA 220 mcg (Eosinophilic Esophagitis Treatment)
2. Pantprazole SOD DR 40 MG
3. Sucralfate 1 GM Tablet
4. Ventolin HFA 90 mcg
5. Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray 50 mcg
6. Amoxicillin 500 MG (2x per day for 10 days)
7. Clindamycin 300 MG (3x per day for 7 days)
8. Doxycyclin 100 M (2x per day for 7 days)
9. Metronidazole 500 MG Tablet (x1 every 8 hours for 7 days)
10. Buspar 15 MG / Lorazepam 1 MG
11. Prilosec OTC 20 MG Tablet / Nexium 40 MG / Esomeprazole 40 MG
12. Phillips Milk of Magnesia / Dulcolax 25 MG

Yes, they've prescribed me all those random medications before identifying what's going on with me.

I've had health problems ever since I was eighteen. I'm thirty three now with health problems advanced enough to significantly impact my quality of life, but I still don't have a clear diagnosis yet. I've become almost physically incapable of getting myself out of bed and doctors still have no clue why. They've even resorted to blaming me or accusing me of doing this to myself intentionally. Fifteen years of my life have been flushed down the toilet. Not by drugs, alcohol or bad choices, but by doctors. I'm never going to be anything. I'm never going to be able to do any of the things I've always wanted to do. I've never even had a girlfriend before. I've never experienced love.

My life has been wasted by doctors. They destroyed anything I was ever going to be.

If you've ever wondered why I'm so skeptical of science...

I've had positive experience with doctors. However, I'm aware that it's not all good everywhere, that the system doesn't work the same everywhere and that some doctors prefer incompetence and money.

Without a part of our medicine, a part of our Avatar community would be either homesick or under the ground.

I'd trust a doctor to heal a broken bone, stitch up a laceration, that kind of thing. However, being part of the transgender community has really opened my eyes to how subjectivity, personal bias, and even politics can undermine effective medical care. (so. many. horror stories.) To put it in a different context, if you have a problem with your car and you take it to a mechanic, you don't expect to get a lecture on how spark plugs and oil are a myth; you expect them to f***ing fix it! Doctors are people like the rest of us; there are some that are incredibly competent and others that are complete quacks.

Only an expert in that field can diagnose you correctly ofc, but that paragraph and the way you express your feelings make me almost 100% sure that you also have some sort of depression.

What's really wierd for me is that you got prescriptions without even having a clear diagnosis, it's totally justified for you to distrust these doctors.

At least some of those are fairly standard, and I take at present two medicines on that list. Clindamycin is an anti-biotic, Amoxicillin is a weaker form of penicillin, Ventolin is meant to open up the lungs (it's an asthma medicine from my experience), nexium is something commonly given for acid reflux and Dulcolax is an over the counter stool softener.

That's just me being a realist. I'm optimistic and hopeful that maybe I'll find a doctor who realizes what this is and gets me the right treatment that will lead to the cure and allow me to get back to my life so I can maybe meet someone and maybe have kids or do all the things I've always wanted to do. The problem is once something goes on for so long and symptoms get to a certain point reality begins to kick in. Some people go to anger or denial. I've moved on to acceptance because I realize that I wasn't going to live forever anyway. I'm not sad or depressed. I'm not even angry. It is what it is. In the United States medical malpractice is the 3rd leading cause of death behind cancer and heart disease. I just happen to be among the unlucky ones. Though an unfortunate turn of events I found all the wrong doctors.

That is truly amazing, and not in a good way.

I have seen many doctors in my life and there have only been 1 or 2 in whom I had little faith (and even then, they were spot on with the diagnosis). So many people in the UK complain about the National Health Service but clearly we are doing something right.

Voted 6. The thing is, doctors sometimes "exaggerate" and I hate it. Simple findings needs only simple explanation. No need to go technical.

Of course I trust doctors! What a stupid question! All that myths and fairytales aside about an evil doctor aside, there probably are some incompetent people working in the medical business, but it isn't that often that people think. It's the media, which are a baunch of parasites that when something like this happens they immidiatly jump on it and start exadurating the problem, that's were the phobia comes from, but then again, this kind of stuff did happen, but it's not often as they say it is. I have poor vision, and asperger sindrome, I've been sick a couple of times as well. Through my entire life that I was going from doctor to doctor (and believe me, quite a lot) In the USA and now in Poland. I never encountered one that would be a 'bad' doctor.
