Avatar Fanfiction Characters and Personalities

If I may, I feel that fanfiction as a whole is growing as a community, and more people are starting to realize how AMAZING the movie Avatar really is. With that, comes loads of fanfictions being written about them and loads more OC's coming with them. I myself have a special fanfic I'm working on, and I have based it around a human who is stranded on the unforgiving Pandora around 11 days after the RDA has been forced off the planet. One of the major things I struggle with though is getting the personalities *just* right! Even designing my own character correctly is tough!
I haven't talked to many other fanfic writers or readers in this fandom before, but I do wish to discuss this topic more and how other people have seen or written about such people. Also, leaving links for fanfics you recommend is appreciated! Thanks!
