Kaltxė! My apologies if this thread is too similar to something else that's still active, or if it is too noobish or whatever. This is literally my first post on this forum ever, and I know about as much Na'vi as your average American knows German. Also, this question is kind of long, so bear with me.
I really want to create a Na'vi name for myself, or rather a fictional Na'vi version of myself. Whatever. But, every method I try leaves me feeling unsatisfied. At first, I tried to use some random name generators, but they all felt way too disingenuous, randomly generating syllables without any regard for the rules of the Na'vi language. And the one promising looking one from LearnNavi is dead. Next, I tried putting together various Na'vi root words into a name, but it felt less like creating a unique, personal name and more like creating a compound word, which also probably didn't obey the rules of Na'vi. I've tried other methods, but I'm not trying to have this paragraph be any longer. Suffice it to say, I need some help and expertise. In addition, I would really love having a full Na'vi name (I'm a guy so that would be Given te Family Father'itan), but not only would that require me to create another name for my father, it would also require knowledge on how family names work that we don't have. At least, I don't think we have. If anyone has any ideas how they are inherited, maternally or paternally, let me know. TL;DR: how in the name of Eywa am I supposed to create a realistic Na'vi name for myself? P.S. I'm from the Tayrangi clan if that helps at all

Basically the male name construction is [Name] te [Father's name] [Family name]'itan. Now I think you can make names up following the rules of the language. You can also transliterate any name into Na'vi.

I've been playing with this for a while now and it's great. Thank you!
I think I'm gonna mix and match my results to get the best possible name. |

You can generate up to 100 names at once. The naming convention actually is... (Vawmataw got this sort of backwards): For males: [First name] te [Family name] [Father's name]'itan Example: Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyo'itan For females: [First name] te [Family name] [Mother's name]'ite Example: Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite Currently, the generator just chooses whether to end in 'itan or 'ite about 50/50 IIRC. But really, since they're all just random syllables, just put 'itan or 'ite depending on which you more identify with. Side note worth mentioning, 'itan means son, and 'ite means daughter. |
