on the one hand, yay! new avatar stuff! a new avatar VIDEO GAME even!

on the other hand, ubisoft's track record as of late has sort of been hot garbage so i'm a bit worried about the final quality of the game.

That is one of my main worries especially given those job opening seem to suggest the game will have a strong multiplayer/open world focus. My fear it turns into a sudo-mmo like the division that has a lot of hype but very little staying power that is shut down after 5 years so you can't play it at all.

The only hope is that they move away from the bullet sponge gameplay (they'll likely have to because of the greater focus on melee) and generic level design (again they'll have to because of Pandora) they produce something that is at least more fun to play long term.

So new information on the game, Ubisoft is looking to release the game in 2020 around the release of the next movie. While this is kind of disappoint that we will have to wait so long it does mean that the game will have a good 3 year development cycle so it might actually turn out good.

I could care less what the game turns out to be. I just want to be back in Pandora and explore the vast and beautiful planet.

Avatar the Game did not get good ratings but I still enjoyed it just as much as the movie because I could immerse myself in the world of Pandora.

Just gimme a game related to the best movie of all time and I will play it nonstop till my eyes dry up.

“What Cameron said is that everyone who walks out of Avatar the movie, and it'll be this thing with the next [movie], has a dream that we can fulfill, and that is to go to Pandora and exist on Pandora, and live an alternative life on Pandora. That's what you can do in the game,” Polfeldt said

Polfeldt still couldn’t comment on gameplay or story specifics, but he did explain players shouldn’t necessarily be expecting a version of The Division re-skinned with an alien planet. The Avatar game will be one much more about discovering its environment.

“It's very very different from The Division. It's built from the same engine, and we have access to any kind of feature or any kind of solution that exists in The Division,” Polfeldt said. “But it also needs to be a different game, because Avatar is ultimately about world and discovery and nature. It's not a city. It's a very, very different kind of scenario.”

That scenario also has philosophical differences driving the gameplay and world building.

“Philosophically it's about something else. The Division is about the fragility of society, our society. Avatar is much more about balance and ecology. So it does need some very different themes that need to be translated into meaningful and fun gameplay,” Polfeldt said.

Its kind of insane in time when licensed games only exist as freemium mobile games we getting a AAA developer producing a full avatar game.

Recently I was discussing this game with a friend of mine and the question eventually came up

"So all you're really looking for is an Avatar flight simulator?"

Yeah, pretty much. I want to be able to fly around Pandora on an ikran. Possibly with other people.

I don't expect that to be the entire game, but it's what I'm looking for most of all.

Yeah that is something I'm also looking forward to. Its weird that the last game botched it so much with a really clunky control scheme and only being able to fly it at the start and the end of the game.

Give me free control and the ability to fly from a floating mountain down through the forest with free control and you have my money.
